Thanks, Stu.

If during the translation from, say, Russian to English you input Russian word in English letters - of course you'll get the same word, that's obvious.

But if instead of "Nadezhda" you'll type "Надежда" - then you'll get "Hope".
I love Russian, it's fun to look at, you guys even have a backwards 'R'. That's awesome..;D

I have two mates, Identical Russian twins. They are both the best chess players in the school, and one is an expert in nuclear physics, chemical and biological warfare. The other wants to be a lawyer.

The other day one openly declared to the history teacher that Russia won the Cold War, then gave several reasons as to why they did.

And one loves calling up such things on the internet as a Google Maps plugin that shows nuclear fallout, destruction and heat produced by various different types of nuclear weapons falling on a postcode or city of your choice. Or going on Youtube and looking at footage of Tsar Bomb detonations.

the other was denied access to Devonport Naval Base when he applied to go there for work experience because of the security risk.

Not doing much to dispel the Russian stereotypes, are they?

I think you might find that things have changed there, mcg.

Just as my generation were told the propoganda of the 'damned evil commies' they were told the same thing about 'damned capitalist fascists' (which, btw is a contradiction of terms. A bit like boiling ice).

I suspect with your age that you don't know much about the real cold war? (no offence to you, just based on my guess of your age). When 2 people could be told they must hate each other just because of their nationality...

As for being an expert in nuclear physics... in school...  ::)

As I have travelled east a fair bit before the end of communism, I know of what I speak... BTW our american cousins might tell you that they beat the Russians in the cold war... Perhaps go to Gdansk and ask them their opinion of what triggered the fall of the USSR.

I know things have changed, but the stereotypes haven't. So I guess it's a bit rare to come across people like that these days...

Oh dear, McG... We seem to have gone very much off topic.

Still, I'm sure the doc will come in with one of his overblown sledgehammer-to-crack-a-walnut comments (probably delivered by PM)

EDIT: Sorry, I forgot. No he won't. :-X

Has the SSE cover changed yet? Then there isn't really a topic. And heaven forbid should we let such a valuable topic die...

Didn't Mr Fred set a precedent by saying that off topic posts in an otherwise redundant topic is acceptable and preferable to opening another pointless topic?

In that case- what's the weather forecast for Western Gynamede?

Correct. In this topic, if memory serves me correctly. and a point raised by me. Well Well Well...

In that case- what's the weather forecast for Western Gynamede?

Sunny with a 20% chance of lemmings.

Na...I think it's just a backward R to make it look fancy  (Either that, or the one who designed the logo/name doesn't have very good English, or was partially drunk at the time in question...).

Anyway - Have you seen the count down clock JHB has made? He should put the 'Countdown' music on it

Interesting. The cover seems much more open to a broader audience, as Frank says in that bit of a video in General Discussions...Seems like a good move to me!
