HI and welcome to the forum

if you shall install on win 7 do this

do not run auto play, open the DVD and right click on the setup/install.exe and those run as administrator
it will take some time to it start.
restart you PC and right click on the shipsim icon on you desktop and run it as a administrator

I have downloaded the free demo and it works ok but when i exit the game it comes up quest viewer has stopped working, that comes up every time i exit the game but i can re  open the game and it works fine again. Just hope that the full version works ok.

HI Knoxy
If you'r laptop processor is below 2.4gig do not exspect to mutch it will also depend on graphics card
My laptop has 4gig mem 8800nvidia gt and win 7 but processor only 2gig so frame rate slow in a lot of
missions

Hi Alex,

Welcome to the forum.
There are many possible causes for that problem:

If the publisher’s video does not run, you may not have the required codec to show it. The fact that the Mission Editor runs tends to point that way because no codec is required for the ME.

Win7 is not well supported for running SS08.

Your graphics adapter has only 308 MB of dedicated memory; it will take 1150 MB of memory away from the CPU.

Notebook PCs seldom perform well for SS 2008, especially in the low power or “battery saver” mode.

There is nothing more I can tell you beyond reading all of the bold blue topics at the head of this board, and to read the topics that discuss the possibilities given above. I would start with installing a codec pack such as the K-lite.

Regards,
Marty

I too have problems with SS2008  :C
I think I have tried everything suggested on the forum, but can't get the game to work.

(Everything is updated on the PC...)

I've downloaded the setup-files (game, updates and add-ons) yesterday from the webpage, therefore I don't think I have to use the update-files, because the ShipSim2008.Setup.exe is already V1.4.2.

Here is the process I've tried:
1. Installed ShipSim2008.Setup.exe
2. Started game - shows version 1.4.2

3. Installed ShipSim2008NewHorizon.exe
4. Started game - shows version 1.4.2

5. Installed ShipSim2008.Elbe.exe
6. Started game - shows version 1.4.2

7. I didn't try any mission but quit the game, then the error "Questviewer has found a problem..." appears.

8. I unregistered and uninstalled the game, deleted the mentioned folders,
   restarted the PC,
   reinstalled only the ShipSim2008.Setup.exe-file,
started the game (this time the VSTEP-video shows up, it didn't do that on the previous install today),
I pressed "Esc" or "Enter" to skip the video, the PC exits immediately to Windows with the error "Questviewer has found a problem..."

I'm looking forward to any help or suggestions  :2thumbs:

For all those who have ss08 on Windows 7. I run version 1.4.2 fine but i had the same problem at first, fix it by simply right clicking on the icon going to propertys, compatability you will find a box saying "run this program in compatability mode for" check the box, the one below it will become highlighted click on it and select windows XP (works best) service pack 3 and click apply. now try to start the game and it should run fine.
