What do you think about her look?

She is definitely ugly!
Uhm, neither ugly nor beautiful, I'd say...
She is the most beautiful ship ever built!
No idea yet...

According to this report, three elements were important in passing the bridge
-lowering of the funnel
-sailing at low tide
-sailing at high speed for Squat-effect

Sorry, it's in German.. ;)

If it was too shallow to use the propellers, how the heck did they create the squat effect?  ;D

Thanks for the explenation of the sqaut-effect Ballast!
It wasn't shallow under the bridge only the 100m out from the shipyard ;)

Here is a report on the grounding of QE2 after leaving Marthas Vinyard. Squat was a major factor in this incident.
Section 5.3 on page 14 gives some insight into the squat factor in the accident. Also see section 8.1 which suggests a squat effect of 2.7 feet occured at the speed QE2 was travelling.

There isn't realy a tidal influence that close to the Baltic Sea. It depends more on the wind force and direction and it is not comparable to the tides of the North Atlantic or the North Sea for example.
