Hi cargoman,
As Tore said, those are the minimum requirements.
SS08 might run on a lower speed CPU but the graphics might stagger and you would have a blue screen crash now and again and lots of other problems.

Mine only just works at 1.6 Ghz, but it certainly has its issues.
As Traddles once told me, it's a virtual miracle that it works at all.

If you look up a bit (that is towards the top of the screen) TJK did say what the minimum specifications are. If you are looking for a second opinion, then anyone will just tell you the same thing.

The minimum specification is 2.4. It MIGHT run at 2.0. It might run at 2.1 It might run at 2.2 and it might run at 2.3. It should run at 2.4

So what you need to do is try it. If your board has a removable timing chip then you could try overclocking- but that is against the recommendations of the board/cpu maker and is strictly at your own risk. I would suggest that if you are not experienced in doing this that you don't try it. If you ARE experience enough then you willl know that 2.4 minimum = 2.4 minimum

If it were me, I would download the 2006 demo (I think it's still available somewhere- anyone any ideas where) and see how you get on with that first.

NO offence intended, but 1.8 is pretty slow these days so I doubt if many people here will have one.

I have one in the office which is about that speed and it is only used as a database server and sometimes it struggles to open word/excel or heaven help us- access.

Try 2006- that's my advice. The performence from it might help guide you better with 08.

Q for others) Isn't there a small demo/trial available at the moment to test your efficiency on one environment/ship? Is this still available and if so would it give Cargoman a chance to test his system against it? Either Fred, Angus, Dave or the Doctor T, would be best to ask...

Download a free demo. If it works then buy and enjoy. If it doesn't then you will need to upgrade or try the 2006 version.

Remember that you will need to set all the preferences right down as far as they will go to have ANY chance...

Still much better than the best settings of the other shipping simulator

It's like MSFS- if you are racing around a harbour on a jetski screen update speed is more important than perhaps some of the special effects. Likewise, if your aim is to spend X minutes preparing your sim-ship for departure, plotting courses and gently easing your ship away from the berth then you might want better graphics.

I think someone with more knowledge than I will undoubtedly be able to furnish you with screen shots.

But I do think it would be pointless to buy the sim until you've tried the demo first.

That are a expensive cpu, my self us a quad core 2,9 GHz and the game run perfect on that.

I remember many weeks ago finding myself at the same wall your looking at...Compaq laptop from 3 years ago with 1.86GHz. It would run, but would be soemthing like that off a Charlie Chaplin film

I then tried it on an HP destop with 2GB RAM and 2.1GHz, results were promising and was more "real-time" than the laptop. However on more enclosed environments like Rotterdam etc it started to became awful jerky.

Finally i find myself sitting in front of a Dell Studio 19, 3GB RAM and 2.9GHz on Core 2 Duo - performance is way better. The ony downside is my graphics card eats just over 1GB RAM so i've had to use a 4GB memory Stick to help speed things up and it has worked

Mine was slow on a 6 year old dell....Processor 2.8GHz Pentium 4 2gb ram and 128 mb Nvidea graphics card $:-\$ It annoyed me playing the game on that because it was so slow so you 1.8 poeple must be pulling your teeth out

Hi cargoman,

There is a very good chance that it will.

But, even if the demo runs good, there is always a chance that you will experience problems with the game, either running it at all, or with certain aspects of it, if you install it on a pc that has below-minimum specifications.

So, yes, it will probably run, on low(est) settings. But no guarantees can be given, I'm afraid. And some later updates in patches, might cause problems too.

As said before in this topic, they are called 'minimum requirements' for a reason. Anything below it, is outside any guarantees or certainty.
