I am not overly impressed with PC World at all. Expensive, poorly trained staff (some good, most not).

I had to argue (who, me?) over statutory rights, when my laptop failed after a couple of weeks "...not fit for purpose...", "...not interested what your policy is... statutory laws take precedence..."

I have asked to speak to the 'store expert' as advertised... only to be told "you are talking to him"... Sorry. Off high horse now.

I can recommend Currys; their range is smaller than before, but their prices are really good (and you CAN haggle!!!). Also, Staples who also have good, knowledgeable people and are very good at honouring warranty claims.

Personally, I'd also only buy a recognised main make, not one that I hadn't heard of before.

Excuse double post. Above too long to add to!

To be honest Jack, and I reiterate I'm no PC expert, but that actually seems quite expensive for what it is.

I bet you could build one from Maplins to a similar spec for 2/3 of that.

I'm (Or parents are) just looking for a computer that will last me a long time, I wouldn't want to get something that wouldn't be of use say in 2 years time...Or not fit for the purpose that I would want it for (Ship Simulator, Virtual Sailor etc.)

Thanks for the help anyway!

Jack.

A computer that doesn't age?

Apart from spraying it with L'oreal, you aren't going to find one. The trick is to get the one where the core components are the best you can afford and go easy on the add ons (for example, who needs things like variable fan controls, 10 USB, etc)... |Get the basics right and upgrade the other bits as you go along...

Well, I would do that...BUT,

The likes of this computer is getting very old now...5 years or so.

I'd be worried that the actual parts, such as wireing, fans, etc...Would eventually go, and cause problems.

I'm not looking for a machine that cannot age, because obviously - That's impossible! But I'm looking for one that, for a period of time yet, will allow plenty of leeway for any future games that I wish to play. (Without having to spend MORE money to upgrade the computer, again..)

I don't even know what it is. But it was on the counter. Maybe a weird shaped apple?

Can we borrow some of that un-wanted snow of yours? - we're lacking any more snow to keep the schools closed here!
