Meh, it's not too  bad, just routine stuff.

Mike it's an accommodation / Work barge that I have been seconded to for a month as the previous chief was erm, relieved of his duties, it's been fun, but not something I would want to do long term.

There are 8 mooring winches for when the barge is anchored on location, all with 12 ton anchors and 76mm wire and a proper anchor winch with a gypsey and chain for when she is anchored like a normal ship.  It's very strange being the chief engineer on a ship with no engines.

You would have thought they might have opted for DP instead of a 9-point anchor system.

DP would have been more expensive.  IMHO it would also have been more attractive to charterers, but then I don't get to make those decisions.

Funchal - Madeira

9 cruise ship there already on marine traffic and another two on the way Mein Schiff 1 & Aidastella. Apparently there is a spectacular fireworks display there to bring in the new year. It must be good to get that many cruise ships there for the night.

After googling for hours it turns out the BIOS can't detect any RAM (although I checked the RAM working) and then I opened it up to test the ram to find a screw rolling around which I cannot see where it came reform :/
All on a day I was not meant to be working  - great start to the year!

PC....
I dropped it from about 6 foot onto concrete, it's been hit, it's was my old school laptop so it's had kids trying to break it, it's been in its bag thrown onto the bag racks - basically it's been tough and I drop it less than a foot and it looks like a write off  :'(

Yep - just ironic how little it fell before breaking yet how much it's been hit!

Might have to accidentally drop this stupid MacBook soon so that I can go and buy myself a decent laptop.

"So Chief engineer, why is your MacBook now drenched in sump oil?"

"Well.."

'Accidentally' drop it? Give that MacBook what it deserves...

Flames should pretty much do the trick.

Definitely the worst money I have ever spent on any electronic / tech type product.  Think I will be buying a proper Windows laptop soon and donating this thing to the missus.

The captain and I went ashore a few times over the xmas week, I got eaten alive by mosquitos, he reckoned that he only got bitten once, he was carted off to hospital on Friday, turns out that he has dengue fever!

Don't think I'll be going ashore for the rest of the trip.
