Quote from: theoperatorcard.ca
The Competency of Operators of Pleasure Craft Regulations require operators of pleasure craft fitted with a motor and used for recreational purposes to have proof of competency on board at all times. These requirements are being phased in over ten years.

@RMS Canada, you did pretty dang good since they only require a passing percentage of 75%. Have fun on the water, and be safe.

Good stuff!

I'm going to Fleet Nautical College in a few weeks, to start my Day Skipper Course, as well as doing the radio lisence etc. It gives me a head start, so at least when I go for the Merchant Navy when I'm 16, I'll have a few box's ticked already.

Good luck to ye'!

Jack.

Congratulations, RMS Canada  :2thumbs:

That demonstrates a higher level of competence than most pleasure craft operators seem to have, in my experience.

Well done, sir!

And Jack, those qualifications are worth having even if you decide not to go into the Merchant Navy. If all pleasure boat owners had them, the lifeboat crews would not be so busy.

PS Once you have that, you might enjoy the Coastal Skipper's course.

Yes, that's true. I always found it odd that, you don't need any sort of license to navigate a boat...To me, boating is just as dangerous (If not more dangerous) than driving a car.

I know a few grown adults, that have actually gone out of Fleetwood, not a clue at all about boating (And Fleetwood is deadly enough for experienced people, I know a few people that have been here for years sailing, and been caught on sand banks, and the likes), and not known what side of the buoys they should be on or anything. I think the way it is, is that, you get these people looking at the boats go in and out, and they think "That looks easy", so they go and buy a boat, and they think that they can sail anywhere, and there are no such things as sand banks, and depths....

A few weeks back, some guys in a little yacht, had no VHF radio. Stena Leader was about to depart (We all hear when she's coming out), and they had no clue whatsoever. The Leader was heading towards them, they managed to dodge her.....rediculous.

WOW thats great  I was going to get mine but my dad has a 100ton master's licence and he said here  all the safe boaters licence does is permit you to drive a boat with 15 horsepower or less or  have an eletrical engine :-\ and to put it th :-\s way there is nothing in this neck of the woods with a 15 hp engine...not even a zodiac they have 40's on them  :-\
So looks like im stuck waiting for  a captains licence...

But thats great for RMS only 2 wrong...I k now some of the questions are really dumb like if there is a larger vessel coming at you and you have the right of way what do you do...GET OUT OF THE WAY!!!!!! :captain:

When I received my large Pleasure Craft License I had to take an eight hour coast Guard Reserve Coarse and I had a 100 question text.  I only got one wrong!

Just goes to show that all of our legal captains and skippers are safe, Although it doesn't seem it.
