All it needs is some new Paint.
How many times have I heard that one before?
NO boat ever meeds just that. Even after a few weeks, boats need all sorts of things.
It depends on how much restoration you plan to do. As I say, I sometimes just start with a hull, having stripped almost everything else off the vessel.
But, if you want one with only a bit of repainting, check the following:
(1)
If it has covers, how well do the clips and zips and poppers work? Is the cover OK or is the stitching coming undone. Are there any areas which have become weak?
Covers have a limited life, depending on the amount of sun and salt that they get. Brittleness is your enemy, as is corrosion.
(2)
If the hull is wooden, have it checked by someone who understands wooden hulls.
If the hull is GPRS, have it checked by someone who understands GPRS hulls.
If the hull is steel, have it checked by someone who understands steel hulls.
(3)
If electrics are "not your thing", get them checked. Likely problems will be some ancient, barely working generator that is poorly fixed and waiting for its tenth disaster that year.
(4)
Do all the hatchways, doors, cupboards, etc work properly? All catches functioning?
(5)
The list is endless, really, but
insist on a sea trial. Or make sure you pay very little for it. Right now, it's a buyer's market.
