hello all

i was just taking the titanic across the atlantic and i was exploring the ship when on the bridge there were some controlls one had a dial that were refering to tugs and port slacks ( i think ) and there was another which was red and only had two options also there was a brass dial in right in front of the wheel does any of you titanic fans know what these were and for?? i really am interested to know thanx all

They are called telegraphs.

The center telegraph was an emergency engine telegraph, used in case the two main engine telegraphs (outer ones) lost contact with the engine room for some reason.

The red one has 7 commands, and is used to relay docking commands from the docking bridge (area on poop deck where there is a wheel and 2 telegraphs) to the bridge where it is decided whether the maneuver should be made. It is called the maneuvering telegraph.

The one with the port commands is rather interesting. It is called the docking/steering telegraph. The docking portion is named for the commands on it. The steering part is what's interesting: Look on its starboard (right) side. It has red and green filled in in the middle with numbers 40 to 0 and then to 40 along the inner area's circumference. You will see the same thing on the docking bridge. Its secondary use was in case both the wheelhouse and navigation bridge wheels failed, those in the navigating bridge could give wheel commands to those on the docking bridge, which had a more direct access to the steering engines below.

Hi Paul,
If you mean the horizontal dial with the big pointer behind the hub of the wheel, it is a rudder position indicator. The vertical shaft that goes up to the overhead and back into the enclosed bridge is a mechanical link to the main helm position in the enclosed bridge—not present in the model—from which the ship was normally steered, and which had the telemotors to the steering engine in the stern.

That's Olympic, not Titanic.

You can tell from the wheel pedestal and that there is one less telegraph.

It is cut off from the pic. It is Titanic's Bridge but a view that is close to the bridge full interior but the cameras back then where big but the lenses were smaller than the ones today so it was cut-off.
