Hi There!

Welcome to the forum! :)

I'm no expert, but, I would say that you'll have no problems running Ship Simulator with that, I only have 1 GB Of ram, and a GeForce 7300, so I'd say you'll have a nice smooth game. But, Terry (Our computer man  ;D) Will be able to point out any possable problems, or give you a more detailed answer, He won't be too long to post a reply, I don't think! ;D

Kind Regards,
Jack :) ;)

I didn't really need to, Jack. You've said it all for me. Should work fine on that PC.

Hi Starwars[number].

Just make sure you have the latest drivers for your card installed (www.nvidia.com).

Just a thought here gentlemen,

Wouldn't the fact that Shipsim only uses one core on multiple core PC's potentially lower the specs a bit here? Perhaps just enough for the occasional hickup, whilst still running good otherwise?

Welcome aboard, starwars42097!

Hi Fred.

Some sections of Ship Simulator run on two processors. So having a dual 2.0 is about the same as a single 2.4GHz.

In any case, he's got 4.5 GHz, which is extremely fast.

I almost got 2.4GHz. My computer is at 2.39GHz. Can I update it to be higher than 2.3GHz? and For free?

Not really. You might be able to overclock it, but overclocking always makes PCs less stable.

2.39 is close enough. Anyway, if you have a dual core 2.39 yu are much fatser than the minimum.

I have a test machine running at 2.2GHz and that runs very well.

Wait. I think there is more info on my system. This is the full info of my PC:
Pentium[R]4CPU 2.40GHz 2.39GHz, 248 MB of RAM. I think Ship Simulator 2008 and New Horizons will not work to play the 1,000MB of Ship Simulator and 1,000MB for New Horizons.

My computer has 248 MB of RAM and the SS08 and NH addon together equal 2,000 MegaBytes.

Matt, that's not how that works, I'm afraid..

Although both boxes say 1GB required (in your case, as I make out..thus xp, right?) you don't add those on top of each other, the specs on the NH box, are just the SS08 specs..

But your RAM is WAY below specs, mate.  248 is not a lot..  :-\

You need 1GB to run the game (+NH) on XP, and 2GB for vista. Though it's wise to have much more of course, cause being on the low end, it will mean you can't make it go at full throttle, so to speak.

But adding NH does not double the needed RAM.., though NH might run a tad bit 'heavier' and being close to the minimum specs can mean that performance after NH installation might be a little less good.

Fred

So you are saying that SS08NH don't take a lot of memory or no memory at all, it is just like a update for Ship Simulator 2008 but without taking any number of bytes? I actually learned that the Windows XP Professional has tons of GB of RAM locked up as free space and hidden. So Ship Sim should work on my PC but the disk tray won't see the SS08 and NH disks as a disk in the tray(which means it is not there but is there), Which is why I can't play.

Indeed, you are just adding more content to the game, and updates. It might be a little bit more heavy on the really low end machines due to this new content and/or changes, but it does not raise the requirements, it's still SS08.

Good thing I put SS08 on another computer before I got the XP I'm on. The other computer is a Windows Vista Home Premium, at my grandmas' house.

Yep, that would require 2Gb.

Yeah, or you could try and get some more RAM in your pc.. it's not that expensive..   :-\

oh btw..

I actually learned that the Windows XP Professional has tons of GB of RAM locked up as free space and hidden.

RAM is hardware..  and an operating system, like windows, does not magically make hardware better because of hidden extra's... installing proper and up to date drivers, and such, can make the hardware work better, or at it's best even, but there's no such thing as locked hidden memory, that - I'm afraid - is nonesense.  You have as much RAM as the actual memory sticks in your pc have, and windows doesn't add anything to it..
