Some tugs also can shoot water, for the same purpose that is outlined by DIAMANT.

I think she’s just glad to see you.

FiFi is one of the things on the To Do list. Part of it has been on the [Moorage & Transfer] panel in ME for some time. I don’t know if it will be in the initial 2010 release.

So the Rotterdam Port Authority No. 12 is part port authority, part fireship. But the P6 ain't. Would it be cool if Titanic shot water from her smokestacks and airvents if she was preserved in New York, IF she never sank but survived a series of icebergs.

P6 is not a Port Authority Vessel, it is a police vessel.

All the RPA vessels have specific, often multiple tasks, all centered around keeping the harbor going and safe, they are like the harbor janitors, security department and emergency service rolled into one, spread over many vessels, simply put..

I remember working FiFI was also on 'to-do list' for SS08.

The FiFi monitors is mostly used for boundry cooling of a vessel. You can only pump so much water in a vessel before she goes to Davey Jones' locker. They can also inject foam (AFFF) for alcohol liquid fires. Testing the FiFi monitors is a weekly job. The RPA 12 can pump about 3100 m3 water per hour.

Most harbour tugs in Rotterdam are also equiped with FiFi.

Purely as a point of interest and following on from Ballast's point about ships going to Davey Jones Locker. The "Empress of Canada" caught fire in Gladstone dock, Liverpool, many years ago, and the fire was fought with a great deal of water, the result being that she lost stability and rolled over onto her side and sank in the shallow water. Following this tragedy details of all ships stability particulars were required to be available to any fire fighting teams on arrival at the scene to prevent such an error occurring again.

Sad to hear about the "Empress", but with learnings from the past we are now much better in fighting fire on board ships eventhough it will remain the worst nightmare for everybody who works on sea. You have to respond very fast, the first 7 or 8 minutes are crucial. On our company the whole crew has to follow the STCW Advanced Fire Fighting course every 5 year. I know that on other vessels only a few officers have Advanced FiFi and the rest of the crew have only Basic Safety Training.

The crew aboard the RPA vessels take it a step higher and follow a higher course. It's not only fire fighting but also gas leaks, chemical reaction etc. etc.

The fate of Normandie in NY is the classic example, at least on this side of the pond.
