dual screen option
« on: November 30, 2008, 19:20:02 »

Apart from accessing the chart on the 2nd screen is there any other cool benefits ???
Also I currently have 2 x 17" Flat screens, is there much benefit in upgrading to 19" wide screens ????

Thanks

Why would you update just 2 inches bigger? And no atm you can only view the chart on dual screens. But even then it doesn't really 'work' for most people..

Thanks AA, I didn't think it was worth upgrading to the 19" monitors - it a shame the game doesn't allow more functionality with the second screen, for example,

Other ships in mission mode
Zoom in on the chart for greater detail
View Inside of vessel

I'm sure there's more.

Thanks
Jon.

It's a shame the game doesn't print money.

But it doesn't, so no point wishing.  ;)

Hi Jon,
If you want spectacular graphics, there is some gain to be had in a 24” (diag. 19” wide) display: It will run at 1920 X 1200, which is HDTV horizontal resolution.

hello jon

i use a flat 22" widescreen monitor for the environment & an old flat 15" monitor for the chart.
it works well, but is probably not the best combination.

if i was starting again i would have 2 x 24" widescreens, hey i would need to win the lottery first.

regards Jet

You can't in vista... Is the problem... Vista acts as they are two screens, and connects them. I assume XP would see this mode as making it just one screen.

I don't know but it dosn't work in vista.

I have had it running in Vista, using the Nvidia control panel, rather than the Windows display settings.

But you have to set it into spanning mode (so that you end up with one extra wide display). I normally use the mode that gives me two separate, but linked screens, as that is better for for the other things I do. If I switch backwards and forwards, all my carefully laid-out icons get pushed onto one screen. So I don't use spanning mode.

But it can be done.

What card do you have?

If its an Nvidia, go to Control Panel, and then to the Displays controls. In there, probably under the advanced tab, you shoud find the Nvidia Control panel. In there will be a wizzrd or other way to access the 3D controls.

It depends on how you have cnfigured Nvidia and which version of the Nvidia controls you have.

If its ATI, then I don't know where it's located, but it should be a similar route.

Make sure that you have the latest video drivers installed, and try googling
"3d control panel nvdidia spanning mode". (or ATI instead of Nvidia).

It is an Nvidia, so my second paragraph applies (see above). But the exact location depends on the way that so many things are set up on your PC.

Control Panel => D|isplays => Advanced is the area, though.

Good luck with it all.

While you're in the 3D controls, you might find that my guide to maximising the 3D settings is useful.
