I know the ballard, unfortunately I never saw her but I did see plenty of lakers when I served on a bulky taking grain from Superior to Hamburg back in the 70's.

Where would you sail her as the Great Lakes are not currently an "Environment" ?

Now there's a thought, negotiating the Welland canal in early spring, and then Buffalo when the ice backs up and the ice breakers have to come and help out.  ;)

Cheers

Wind does not act directly on ships in this simulator, so there can be no sail-driven ships. Even if that were not the case, the extra animation and controls needed to realistically operate a sail boat would require devoting more resources than it would be worth. Do not expect to see sailing ships in SS 2008. It is not likely that they will be in future versions either.

I'd like to see some smaller passenger vessels, some icebreakers, more small and big fishing vessels and maybe some research vessels. Whatever may be added in the future, it should be varied. I don't see why we would need a hundred different cruise ships, who all handle the same. I'd like to see a lot of different ships, from different eras and for different uses.

the solent, marseille, NYC, and rotterdam would work if oyu improvised and had a little imagination

Duluth/superior is like marseille, minus the ore docks.

14,5 knots? That ain't to bad at all! :o

But, on-topic, i do have a ship in mind for SS08.
She is one of my all-time favourite ships, the Great Laker SS "Edward L.Ryerson"

I really like the old-style Lakers, they are beautifull ships. The "Ryerson" is uniqeu, because it's the only Laker, that has "designed" super-structures. Most lakers are pretty straight forward, but the "Ryerson" has very nice details, like the stack, the masts, etc.
For exsample, an "ordenairy" Laker: MV "Frontenac" (before conversion to self-unloader)

Allthough not as detailed as the "Ryerson", i still find this a beauty as well. :)

Ryerson re-entered service in 06 after an 8 year layup, although she had an early layup this year in november due to the economy, so were not sure if she will be out again next season

(note the stack is stainless steel)

also saw the Frontenac this year

I would like to see a seagoing deck barge, and container barge to go along with the Russian tug.  Maybe an ITB tug and barge as well. :)
I work on a 290' anchor handling tug.  It would be great if we could actually run anchors from the oil rig.  I know that's easier said than done!

Merry Christmas

Hi folks,

I am new to the forum but not to ShipSim.  I think that it would be great to see some of the old timers, real classic passenger ferries which have almost been forgotten.

For example;  Some of the old Thoresen Vikings or the Union Steamship Company's TEV Rangatira.

I would love to see more fishing vessels, small and big, from trawlers to liners.
Like this Norwegian 226 feet fishing vessel.
