Hello,

Im thinking of getting a new pc to run all my games on for incresed proformence.
I was wondering what anti-virus i should get.

I have Bullguard and it picked up 2 infected cookies.
I also have norton but that hasn't picked up the infected cookies.  


Please leave your suggestion!

Hi There,

I have Bullgaurd and it is fantastic, don't worry, the cookies are nothing to worry about, scan your computer, and click "Fix" when the scan is finished, cookies aren't a problem, i get them now and again.

BUT, i used to have Norton and personally, i think it is rubbish, i wouldn't buy it, go for Bullgaurd, its a nice piece of kit.

i have norton, well i dont pay for it but i do a scan very often and a live update and i often find a tracking cookie with mine, always has done me well, with my old computer i got a virus and it got rid of it completly strait away. iv never tried bullgurd so i dont know what its like but norton seems to be ok for me

By the way, is it true that Norton makes your pc very slow?

depends, mine hardly slows mine down at all when its doing a scan, other than that its fine

I use the Avast system for two reasons. Firstly it is freeware and secondly I have yet to have any attacks on my system. With Avast Anti Virus and Windows firewall I find it to be an excellent set up. Why pay out good money when you can get something free?

I think the freeware is not that good at all,i'm getting a payware antivirus,than you get updates at the time to.

ive got trend micro pc cillin or some rubbish that my pc guy put on,and it sucks cos it didnt let me nstall the download which would get my flight simulator to work cos it says there was trojan hrse and then it restarted my pc -_-. But then i found the solution,turn the security off and install it

I have about 40 PCs and 15 servers under my direct control. I've run Norton for many years on most of them without ever getting a virus. However, since the 2004 version, it has been steadily getting less usable (more demanding, sneaky ways to charge my credit card and so on). So, I am now using the paid version of AVG on all new machines and that also has never let a virus through.

Cookies are a different thing altogether. Norton does not pretend to spot rogue cookies or spyware, nor does AVG. I use Spybot and Adaware as a pair to scan for those.

I have a test unit onto which I sometimes put viruses. Then I play with them and see what it takes to wipe them out. But I am very strange.... Although I can manually disinfect a system, both Norton and AVG seem perfectly capable of doing that as well.

In regard to the Avast anti virus system I should point out that I get regular updates sent to my computer. sometimes as often as twice in one day.

By and large, ANY antivirus system is a million, billion, trillion times better than no security system!

some people may not agree with this but. Norton, thats all i have to say. I've got norton on both my desktop and laptop, and its always catching things. Aslong as you keep up to date with it, its worth the money to protect the computer, it even warns about fraudulent web pages.
