Well maybe The shop could just fix the computer, although it has quaranty. Besides I think they have cheated us, because on the paper it says that the hardisk is 320Gb, but it's only about 280Gb in the computer, so they have to do something.

I suppose thats a way of sending it back. and when you get a new one make sure you have an antivirus programme like "bullgaurd", oh and i wouldn't bother with norton antivirus, i think its rubbish.

Windows took some space on your hard drive. That is why a 30gb iPod is really only about 25gb.

Makes me think about FAT32.  ::)

Anyway get a 'free' antivirus, and even if it is a trial you shouldn't have to pay to remove anything,

Hiya Minime :)

Are you aware that all computers use Base 8, not Base 10?

If you have a hard drive that's 'stated to be' 500GB, this equates to 500,105,216,000 Bytes (roughly ;)).  This will be equivalent to 465GB in 'real terms' ;)

It's similar with Ram, you see 1GB listed as 1024MB, 2GB listed as 2048MB, and so on.  If you right-click your drive, and select Properties, then take a look at the Capacity.  There are two different numbers, one is Bytes, the other is GB.  This should give you a better understanding of your drive size ;)

Hi Ithink I'm just going to let the computer be as it is, if something happends, I know a guy who is good at computer, plus we have quaranty.
I don't use that computer so often, only if I have a very good game, which my computer can't handle, and when I am there

I read most of the thread, but, I dont know if this was said-

If you have a trusted virus scanner (came with computer, or AVG), and it doesnt show any viruses, but an unknown does, delete it. And if you computer is acting bad or something is wrong, (I read that someone mentioned rootkits), you should download the free AVG rootKit detector. It scans fast for rootkits (RootKit=A Virus that makes itself look like a system file, so virus scanners dont check it.), tells if theres any, and it lets you rid them. I have AVG scan me for viruses and rootkits every week, few here and there, rid them, then im fine.

From,

Ok, thanks, but I can't delete the virus program, because it says it's open.
I'm going to try AVG Free on my laptop, because McAfee isn't working(my fault).

Ctrl + Alt + Del, go to processes tab and find something like antivirus.exe. (These are programs running in the background) and try to end its process.

That won't work with this one.

I did give instructions, but I think I must have become invisible at that stage.

Hi again Minime.

Antivirus programs don't always catch trojans and other spyware. That's why I gave you the links to those free programs (see above). They are ones that I use and they work well.

I do know the malware involved, and as DJM (And myself) have said, a system restore won't fix this. It is a nasty piece of work and combines rootkit with several different versions of itself running at the same time, so if you kill one, another of its brothers will simply restart it.
[edit - typo]
I'm going to try those programs, nextt time I'm going to visit them.
