ok paddy, I feel a little bit less pessimistic this afternoon so ill model an oil tanker and (forcing myself to) texture it (ugh...)'

Time is a vertue my son...

OK jokes aside you really should spend more time on the hull because that is what took our fore fathers so long to make a boat float.  One of our best modelers ,Geox, took almost 1^1/2 years to make his ice breaker hull.
