Shipwreck banned for having fun
« on: April 09, 2008, 14:29:40 »

shipwreck has been banned for having fun on Ship Simulator , he got 12 kickvotes from players. he was on a hamburg server when some others players came in , he went towards them and didnt even touched him and he got kicked from server for "nerving" them. then one of the other players crashed into another player and he said "oh im sorry mate" and the person who got rammed said "oh dont worry no harm done" also when Shipwreck has reported soem players for harrasment and ramming him the admins didnt do anything but when the admins got reports from other players they did everything they could , dont you think think this is abit racist? as the admins will only help some players. Also he has been banned for over 60days on his "3rd ban" he has only had 1 ban so their is abit of a communication break down. Now could you please send proff of that being his 3rd ban? when he only had 1 ? or unbann him ?

Edited to remove references to particular Nationalities, DJM.

Hiya Chris-S1 :)

This has been reported to the Administrators.  The banning rule is an effort to make the game fair for everyone, mistakes can happen though.  I'm not saying this is what's happened here, but it will be investigated :)

I will now edit the above post to remove the references to particular groups of people.  We don't really need comments that point fingers at certain Nationalities, I'm sure you can understand that :)

Regards.

I can understand the frustration here Chris, and I also understand that you would want to defend a friend because you believe an injustice has occurred.

The only reassurance I can offer at the moment is that the topic has been reported, and the Administrators will be aware of everything that has happened with regards to the servers and Shipwreck, and it will be checked and dealt with if necessary :)

Hopefully, there should be a resolution on this soon :)

Kind regards.

I can assure you that all Nations that take part in Ship Simulator online gaming, and all members registered on the forum (no matter what Nation they belong to) are treated with fairness and equal respect by all staff members :)

We have many staff members from different Countries too, so we all follow the same principle......."every member receives respect and fair treatment" :)

It may be an Administrator who contacts Shipwreck about this if necessary, but if possible I will update you in this topic of course :)

I understand that but all about that countries players is true. you could ask shipwreck but you couldent. 60 days has been up and he has not been unbanned , could you also find out why he is on his 3rd ban? when he has only had 1 ?

Just for the record, not even one month has passed, let alone two... he was banned on March 18th. And it's now April 9th. How is that 60 days?

You have had a discussion with me aswell some time ago and I told you that there was a totally different MP session reported than the one you thought was the case. So you have no point at all with this story, there was something totally different reported. I told you it was not what you thought when you asked me if it was that specific case.. why do you bring it up again??

Also, he was not banned for a single incident. Shipwreck has had 12 kickvotes and has on several occasions been disrespectfull to other forum members and to staff members.

Wout gave you both a clear warning about certain behaviour and especially warned Shipwreck about his behaviour on the servers. And then we got yet another report, with proof that it was not "just having fun".  And no, you are not entitled to see the proof.

So that was he final violation in a series of violations and incidents. And therefor he got as long a ban as he got.

So he still has got more than half a ban to enjoy and I hope he will behave better once he's back. And btw, you might want to warn him to stop trashtalking about certain forum or staff members on other media too, or maybe he won't even be back at all....

You should not whine about it on his behalf, specially since you allready had a clear bottom line story from me in the past.
That's not very nice.. And not like this anyway, not out in the open, naming people and making it a racist thing. What you thought happened, DID NOT HAPPEN, so I suggest you drop it.

It's good to see though that your dyslexia was cured!  ;)

Regards,
Fred

I don't like being called a racist. Just for the record: I am not a racist either, all I do is gather facts and act upon them. I usually don't even look at the nationality of members. Where you got the idea that I am a racist I don't know, but I can tell you it is not even near reality.

Look at the points Fred just pointed out to you. The ban is not even one month, let alone 60 days. Please don't accuse me of things that are not true, you know the facts as well. Again you've decided to post a topic on the forum about this issue, and now your reply will be on the forum too. The ban is not going to change. My thoughts about you and shipwreck aren't going to get any better as well, I can tell you that. At the moment you are just inches away from your own ban. A decision has been made and that decision will not be reversed unless new facts arise. This is not the case.

We need to draw a line somewhere. Shipwreck has crossed that line with both feet and you're headed for the same direction. The discussion is closed, even spoiled kids need to stick to the rules on this forum. In the real, adult world you don't get everything what you want. It's time for you two to learn that. Shipwreck screwed up and he has to live with the consequences. I don't want to hear another word about this issue. If I do, be ready for a ban yourself.

Greetings, Wout

Like we said,we have to see some pics,to have an overview of this incident.

Are you challenging my integrity?

I have told you before in a PM what the situation was. That is not something we usually do, but I made an exception to stop your whining. So you allready got more info from me than anyone else. Wasn't that enough? You even agreed with me, remember? I could even quote your PM but I'm not going to play this silly game with you.

Reports are handled objectively by the staff. Decisions are made based on proof and proof alone. The report itself, who reported who, and any and all proof, are not meant for the public, so it will never be disclosed.

That's the way it works, and if you don't like it, you can stay the heck off the forum or the VSTEP servers. You are a guests, you are not automatically entitled to everything yet you do have to follow forum and multiplayer rules. period.

I could post a lot of screenshots of Shipwreck slamming into other ships, where the wakes and the chat clearly paint the picture... but I wont, as again, WE DON'T DO THAT!

You have gone way too far with this last remark as far as I am concerned and I hope Wout does what he promised because I have had it with you aswell. Calling me a liar like that, where do you get the nerve to suggest we banned him without proof?

Of all the stuff said to you and after Wout's warning you pick out that one sentence and challenge us again?

Are you really this daft?

I have a question, purely from a interest point of view, and is not related to this thread.

I can see that it is essential to take photo's of certain incidents as proof of evidence.  What I would like to know is does the server that you are connected to keep a "black box" record of what movements and messages were sent on a certain server at a certain time. For example speed and if any avoiding action was taken prior to a collision.  Personally I would like to see an option (unless it already exists) whereby a user can export the messages sent and received within the chat box.

Yours

Hi Chris,

As im reading are you trying to ''appeal'' against ShipWrecks ban?

If so there are better ways of doing so, instead of making a topic like this which is visable to everyone.

Have a look at this post, this shows you how to appeal a ban, the best way! http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=196194.0

take a few hints from that topic, and although its not VSteps post, you can use it in a simular way to 'appeal' here, a few good pointers;

Quote
Appealing a Ban:  There are absolutely no guarantees that even if you appeal a ban that it will be reversed/rescinded, especially if you've been banned previously.  The best way to do this would be to drop an email to Vstep

Key things to remember:
* Be Professional - Think through your email before you send it.  Would this be a letter that you would send to your elected government official?  If not, redo it.

* Stick to the facts - An email laced with white or blatant lies will often get overlooked.

* If you were legitimately wrong, own up to your error, and acknowledge it.

Key things to NOT do/send:
* Don't send other people to contact Vstep on your behalf.  If you got banned, take responsibility for your own self.  Don't expect/rely on others to do your work for you.

*  Don't scream, DON'T TYPE IN ALL CAPS, don't use profanity, unless citing a specific example.

*  Don't play the blame game.  You were banned for a reason, focus on yourself, and don't be a tattle tale.

Ive edited it slightly, but the main points are there, try them ;)

Actually, he challenged my remark, not Carl's... but same thing.. and enough is enough..  ;D

And DazrahT, the chat is logged on the servers, but movement or speeds or those things are not, as far as I know.

@ James.. yes, those are good guidelines indeed.

I might also point out to chris, arguing with people that can easily just hit the ban button and forget about you for ever. Probably is not the best idea. They don't have to listen to you they can easily just ban you and forget about it. So maybe you should be a bit more civil and work it out like a adult and not a pathetic kid.

Hello,
There is a thread with the Forum rules (http://www.shipsim.com/ShipSimForum/index.php/topic,26.0.html) covering this kind of arguments.
It would be a good idea to read it, not everybody did it, alas.

Quote
What If I Disagree With A Moderator?
Moderators are not perfect and are only human. Disagreements occur. Try to communicate with them first on a respectful level and settle your disagreement. If you do not agree with a decision, you are not entitled to start a thread arguing about the verdict or flaming any of the moderators. Any such messages will be removed. This extends to Private Messages and email as well, and you are not entitled to insult moderators via any of these methods.

If you feel a verdict is unfair, please contact a forum administrator (preferably Wout). Inform them about the whole situation.

I think that these rules are clear, and for a "complaint mail", the advices of Jamesd01 are very considerate indeed. Don't you think it is really more than enough?
The time has come, I think, to pause/close this topic, don't hesitate to send PMs to any moderator if you have something more to add about it. There is no point to go further.
Regards,
Luc
