AI ship wakes and speed
« on: August 11, 2007, 05:29:29 »

Why do the AI ships not have any wakes?? Is it because they're going so slow? And why are they going so slow? Is there going to be a patch for this problem does any1 know? or can you somehow fix it in the settings section of the game?

#1 I think that the developers did that so that the lower spec computers will play it better..

I think that most of the ships are stationary at the moment. I've seen a few AI ships with wake - at speed- on the excellent 'trouble on the solent' add on mission. So it IS possible already...

I'm afraid repeating your question won't bring you any different answer.

Are you SURE the AI boats are moving slowly- to me, they seemed stationary.

Try the 'trouble in the solent' mission. AI boats going fast- WITH wake. Try it and see what happens- it might identify a problem with graphics setting or something.

Ive noticed that only the SS08 player ships have wakes when they are AI controlled.
All the SS06 ships and leisure craft dont.

Yes, you are right. I've just looked again. I never thought to post that comment.

Errrr! No, the vessel in the pic is not sinking.  I glanced out of the wheelhouse window to see this fishing vessel zooming past in the opposite sea lane.  It later dropped back down and continued at a gradually decreasing speed.   It's not the first time that I've seen ships going by at unnatural speeds although the taxi is the only one I've spotted travelling in an almost vertical postion.
In SS2006 we could set a speed limit on AI ships and thus avoid "overtaking" Is there a plan to control AIs in SS2008 or at least limit them to their normal max speed?

In SS08, so far as I’ve seen in missions I’ve built, AI ships travel at their maximum speeds.
Overtaking is generally not a problem because, if you make the path wide enough, you can offset the ships so that they may pass each other.

You can’t adjust the speeds of AI ships in the mission, but you can run them faster in the Editor to check that they overtake without conflict and make it around corners.

I doubt that we will see individual control over AI speeds anytime soon. There are more important features, such as making EX waypoints optional for mission completion, and the ability to fix damage to engine or rudder.

If you mean the ships that are going around all over the place, now they do have bow waves and foams, i have  relized this when i went for a trip out to the Atlantic.Just switch your detail level on high.Um about their speed well that's a mystery to me to.

That's me in the speed boat and that's an AI ship (Veraamas)

I am currently building a generic solent environment that includes ferries crossing from southampton to cowes, etc. and I have added RedJet4.  However, she is not running at her service speed of ~40knts but only about 25knts! Which is a bit annoying!

I speed tested by using a player RJ4 running along side.
