Board Speed
« on: January 08, 2008, 15:52:56 »

I am brand new to Ship Sim. Have just started to feel out the options.
I do note that the reaction time to any option change is very long. Even the
time to log into these questions is very long. Is this normal?
I have not been able to find a radar function on any of the controls. Is this because
other ships or obsticles will be seen on the screen regardless of fog?

Thanks for any help.

Welcome Captaintom,
I’m not sure what you mean by long reaction time. I have 52kbps dial-up and find the response quite fast except during very heavy traffic periods.
Your only radar is the chart, which has no controls for sensitivity. All traffic will be visible, but not icebergs. The magnification controlled by the scroll bar on the chart, and by the numpad + & - keys, is your only range control. The green radar displays on some bridges are synthesized from the chart and have no range control. The good news is that you don’t have to worry about sea return or clutter. :)

Marty

Thanks fro the info.

I have a cable modem which has extremely fast speed. When I make a selection as to type of ship or weather conditions, its almost as if the system, has frozen. It takes at l;east 15 or more seconds to get a reaction.

While maneuvering a ship though the reaction tine is good.

I'll play around with it some more. Maybe It's my learning curve.
