Oceana crow's nest or mast area
« on: November 19, 2013, 00:52:14 »

Does anyone know how to get to the area where you can climb to the crow's nest or mast of MS Oceana? I can pretty much walkthrough the rest of the ship except where it is blocked off by a red rope.  Need help?

It was originally intended for the mast and interior staircases, as well as the rest of the atrium and engine room, to be accessible in walkthrough, however it would have been too heavy so V-Step blocked off some areas, including the mast. It really is a shame, there must be a great view from up there.  :-\

Too poly heavy for one, plus too many walkthrough surfaces. I'm not entirely sure though, I'm no professional.

I did see on one of the Oceana youtube videos that it took you on the walkthrough to some areas that we can not get to in the actual game walkthrough. It showed being able to go up to the very top of the crow's nest and mast. So no matter what that video shows we are no way possible to bypass it?

That might have been Mr. Robville's tour video, which was for the pre-SSE Oceana.

The first "proof of concept" video of Oceana for the CCC with the 70's music was shot in Virtual Sailor. It's a simple game that includes more flexible camera movements opposed to SSE, so I was able to take shots from angles that SSE cannot.
I originally intended the navigation mast to be accessible for walktrough where people could enter the mast area by clicking on the steel door on the base. I'm not sure why VSTEP didn't implement any walktrough on that spot since it wouldn't matter for the required CPU power.

As for the atrium and interior stairwells. These were modeled entirely and gave access from the bridge to boatdeck, and from the pool area to the sundeck with the atrium attached to it.
This area however had to be changed by VSTEP for optimization reasons.

that makes sense. I understand now. The game is great regardless. It would be nice to be able make it accessible in the future. You know?

Robville,

Is there any way to request that SSE or VSTEP make a change to make the areas accessible for Oceana so that we can walk to those areas and through the doors, view from the mast or crow's nest? Just curious if that is possible. I am sure there are other users who would want this to happen? Or can you make the recommendation since you are on the team as well?

As far as I know, VSTEP has no plans in altering the ship I'm afraid.

I personally would still love to fix those glitches from the interior though that occured after the ship was converted ingame. (missing doors etc.)

Ok. You did a great job on the ship design. It is magnificent. I really enjoy using it in missions and in free roaming as well.  Beautiful job!!!! The only thing is I need to enhance the graphics sometime...
