Nope Im having that problem also (I bought the game on steam). I have had that problem since Friday and have been waiting for a fix since. Ive heard STEAM may fix it today but I have no idea how true that is.

Don't expect Steam to fix it anytime soon.  Generally they are at least a day behind sometimes 2 or 3 days behind.  The reply I got to my Steam ticket was to talk to Vstep who then tells you to talk to steam.  So take it for what you will.  I however hold both companies responsible.  Hope all the various issues with this game get fixed soon.  Best of luck to everyone.

Ever since the Release of Ship Sim Ex, VSTEP has been a little more active now seeing if anyone are having problems with the new game, and there were some in SS08 and now many in SSE. VSTEP is releasing patches to fix the bugs, like Freedom 90 not able to land on Hovercraft areas in Calais, Dover, and Ryde. They will soon fix this error.

Remember your posting for help on a Sunday and what will be the middle of the night in Europe so there is your reasons for no reply from Vstep.

Doesn't matter since Vstep keeps saying it's Steam's problem and won't help.  Steam keeps saying it's Vsteps problem.  All anyone can do is wait until Monday morning when Steam opens.  They don't have their guys working on the weekends :).  Honestly Steam has gone down hill in the last year or two and tends to have problems with game launches.

I've kept quiet until now but I think I'm gonna voice my opinion.

Steam isnt the best when it comes to launches, like the latest BF game and their patches, but they normally time it with the producer/developer of the game properly to have the patches out 1 day after.

So I hope someone here can answer a simple question please:
When can we except a fix for the language settings problem for customers who brought the game from steam?

Steam have acknowledge there is a fault in the game and have removed it from their store until vstep fixes it.

Don't hold your breath.  Vstep is pointing fingers at steam.

Game not being ready to release on Steam is not Steams fault.  I'll be the first to admit that Steam has been a sub par distributor lately but I agree with Bugzi.

Would be nice if Vstep and Paradox maybe took some responsibility instead of having there mods give the generic responses.

Hi guys,

I've just let VSTEP know about this issue to now, as it seems to be a more common problem.

May I also remind you that the download and boxed versions from the Ship Simulator website have not had any problems?

This problem is related to Steam, no one is pointing the finger anywhere and both parties are working to fix this issue as soon as possible.

All I can say is just have a little patience. It's been the weekend too, and companies don't work during the weekend. They all deserve a little time off too, don't you think?

Even the staff of VSTEP have been on the forums today on their day off, so if you think they're being unreasonable then think again ;)

well im not going to lie, if an error like this occurs they should be staying nights and weekends to fix it.  The customer deserves that as he is paying good money.

Yes you are right, VSTEP should be working day and night without breaks and should not be allowed to leave the building until this issue is fixed.

Ohh and while they're at it, they might as well work on all the other issues that everyone else has reported.

Come on... cut them a little slack eh?  :-\

This was posted by a someone over on the Steam forums by a guy called Fr0st.

This worked for me,  I'm running win7 64.

"Fixing "Language Not Supported" error
Hey guys,

I too purchased Ship Simulator and then found it didn't work.... did some digging around in the program directory and it looks like there's an installation script that isn't being run for some reason.

Anyway, I managed to get my game to work; I was getting the "Language Not Supported" error, here's how I did it -- I'm not sure if all the steps are necessary but this is what I did.

First some background: I'm running Windows 7, 64-bit edition. Downloaded the game and ran it, only to get the abovementioned error message (Steam _did_ provide me with a CD key, so I didn't have that problem).

There were two things I did that got the game working, I'm just not sure if it was one of them or both that did it Your mileage may vary.....

1. First install and run the game, when you get the "Language Not Supported" message just exit.
2. Run regedit. Look for a key in your registry called 'Vstep', it should be under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software
3. Under that key, there should be another key called "ShipSimExtremes" or "ShipSimulatorExtremes" (can't remember exactly off the top of my head, I'm not at my gaming machine).
4. Add a string value under that key called "Language_Ingame". Set the value to EN
5. Exit registry editor

Now, re-launch Steam and try running the game again. You may still get the error message. If so, here's the second thing I did.

1. Exit Steam entirely.
2. Go to your C:\Program Files\Steam directory (on Windows 64-bit it'll be C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam'.
3. Right-click on the Steam.exe icon and select "Run as Administrator...."
4. When Steam comes up, launch Ship Simulator.

At this point, I got the 'License Check' window asking me to type in my CD key; I had gotten past the 'Language Not Supported' error.

After you've done this, you can run Steam normally (exit Steam and then re-start it as your normally would, NOT AS ADMINISTRATOR) and the game should work fine after that.

Some other things:

The UI is very glitchy. If something doesn't seem to work when you click on it, try double-clicking. I had some issues when first creating my profile - I had to click exactly on the '+' icon in the create profile icon (you'll see what I mean after you enter your CD key) and when choosing options from the drop-down menus occasionally I'd have to double-click also.

Another thing, if you look under your Steam\steamapps\common\ship simulator folder, somewhere under that are installation files for the DirectX runtime, the PhysX runtime and the Visual C++ redistributable files. You might want to try running these EXEs if you have any other problems running the game. Again I assume they should be getting run when the game is first launched from Steam but aren't for some reason"

Hope this gets it working for some of you.  Like I said it's not my solution but it worked for me.

Not working for me and I downloaded Ship Simulator extreme from the VSTEP website directly. Funny thing is it was working initially. Only difference, since last play, is that Windows updates have been applied.

Getting feed up with this flacky UI and to have to troubleshoot before being able to play the Game.

Lets see what VSTEP support comes back with. Submitted one of the Contact forms a moment ago.

I believe I have spoken to you on the customer support.
As you may have noticed it's mostly Steam users having this problem, hence my initial assumption you owned one aswell. You seem to be the first non-Steam user with this issue.
I have already contacted VSTEP about the issue and am awaiting response from them. Tonight when I proceed with CS I shall send cbilal in the other topic you replied to an email asking what he did to solve it. I hope he found a non-Steam fix somewhere in the game's own data.

VSTEP and Steam passing the ball to each other should of course not happen if it's not necessairy.
Usually anything Steam client related (Keylog errors, incorrect language, undelivered license keys, no available servers etc.) should be dealt with by Steam as VSTEP does not have any controll over their database and servers. (also license keys through Steam are not directly provided by us)
Anything gamecontent related should usually be dealt with by VSTEP (startup crash, can't play multiplayer, unstable etc.)

An error message about language is not uncommon for Steam. I had similar messages with other games, including some of Valve themselves. That's why it's so strange and new to us that a non-Steam user has this problem. And of course, all non-Steam games are fully dealt with by VSTEP.
