Ship Sim Forum... the forgotten place...
« on: November 07, 2011, 17:59:21 »

To stop the CCC Now thread from getting... derailed, thought I would move here...

Why has the Forum seemingly been forgotten these days by VSTEP updates? Most of the stuff on the CCC topic has been got by people on the FailFacebook site...

now I know the whole world has apparently gone Failbook crazy, but not EVERYONE has it, so why can;t the updates also be posted here?

Seems a shame that the forum has seemingly been replace by failbook :(

Sorry, about moaning, just my opinion of course  :(

I agree as well – I neither do I use Facebook nor do I plan to do it in future.

And, TFM, you shouldn't call it 'moaning' when you speak out your opinion.

"We are gatherd here today to morn the passing of the shipsim forum. The forum has seen many changes over the years, and has always been a strong and focal point of the SS series. Throughout it's years of service it has remained gallent, strong, and focused. The forum, strong till the last, put up one heck of a parting fight, but, the giant facebook struck a killer blow to this once proud site. may it rest in peace"

The forum is not dying at all! What is dying is the flow of interesting topics relating to Ship Simulator. :o When I look at some of the stuff which is posted of late, it is really no surprise that interest is dying. Speaking personally, I find this very sad. Those who are unable to play Ship Simulator Extremes as well as they would like, still have the excellent Ship Simulator 2008 to play, but for many it is just not new, so therefore the attitude is that it is no good. Very, very sad.
The CCC vessels are well on the way, in fact, "Winner" is imminent, probably a matter of a day or two away. What more information do folks want. ??? "Deniz Doga" too is well along the route and getting close. Vstep are being dammned if they do AND dammned if they don't, so it is no real surprise that nothing is said until it is worthy of saying.

None of these images was posted here in the forum, but were on Facebook, thus people without Facebook had no clue they were even up

Now, I always thought it was swensons job as community manager to post infomation here and on the other sites, IE: post pictures of a CCC's vessels progress both here and on facebook, so surely, if hes only posting on faecbook/twitter then hes not doing his job? I mean, you shouldn't have to rely on other members or the unpaid forum mods to do the work that hes payed for, right?

I just found out about the Ship Simulator facebook site. So, I made myself a brand new fb profile and I'm there!
One of the greatest fb & social network vulnerabilities is that it's awfully easy to totally cancel somebody's posts and simply ignore them, as well as to have your own posts cancelled by your contacts once you spam all the time the 'wall' of a person with hundreds or thousands of contacts. Why the heck shall my cousin who works 15 hours a day get bombarded about my 10 daily likes on the SSE fb page? Or why shall the e-chick I'm flirting with on fb start seeking my activity at the new pages I get registered and get totally confused and spent about my character?
It's so easy to be totally ignored in social network platforms. Those platforms are such a new concept to the human perception and communication that will need years to mature, I guess many more years than the PC technology, from "pentium" to iPad. And still, social network platforms will always have gross limitations. Getting completely sucked in into digital communication is a sickness, although I am sure it's much easier to find people who match your interests online, instead of expecting that you'll meet them one day at your town's pub by chance.

The forum on the other hand has indeed a little "old" interface. Why do I always have to spend eyesight to see Danny's and Traddlesse's signature and banner when all I have time about is to click a couple of links and see what the dudes want to publish ?
Time and usage causes the instruments and tools to mature, what's more important to me is that we choose where we decide to start building our social profile in the vast field of the digital era communication tools. And once we build the core of our profile then we can expand further, I think.
