[BUG] Can't complete mission.
« on: April 19, 2011, 01:28:55 »

I'm doing the Core Campaign,
The "Coast Guard Duty" Mission.

you control the Coast Guard Cutter, leave the port of Rotterdam into the open sea (There is a loading screen)
Night at sea, you start investigating fishing ships one by one, then one of them fleets, I chase it with the deployable boat, it stops, I return the inflatable to the cutter and escort the fishing ship to the port of Rotterdam (There is a loading screen), after the loading screen we are at the entrance of the port, but the fishing ship will not follow me to the mooring area !!! >:( I tried towing it, ramming it at 30 knots with the cutter, It doesn't move an inch what am I supposed to do ?

please help, I'm desperate atm :-[

I have already finished the Tourist and Greenpeace Campaigns completely with no issues. am I missing something ?

Hello Everest,

Welcome to the Forum.

Please register your legal copy of SSE in your Profile in this Forum. This will allow you access to all boards of SSE including Tech Support. You will then be able to check in the Missions board if anybody else had a problem like yours and if a solution was provided.

Normally, we Moderators conduct a search and if there is a solution found we give you the link to that post. If you have not registered your copy of SSE then you will not be able to access that link. Further, we encourage members to first conduct a search for a solution and then post if nothing has been found.

Registering your copy also gives you another "bonus" - you will able to down load all the Custom Missions in the Download Content section when you are online.

http://80.95.161.114/shipsim/forum/index.php/topic,22436.0.html

Here you can see that this has caused problems to others. The secret is to ensure that the cutter stays pretty close to the fishing vessel BEFORE the environment change. Once both vessels are in the new environment the fishing vessel should follow the cutter under Auto pilot. There is no need to tow or push, just move off with the cutter and "Sigita" will follow. I hope this helps, don't give up, it does work correctly, I have re-played the mission to check again for you. However, as vin_sun says, you must first register your copy of SSE inyour profile to gain access to the above. When you have done this you will see the word "EXTREMES" below your name when you post as you can see below my name.

Regards,
Angus.

How close ?
It moves really slow, what do you suggest ?
should I stick to it really close or even sail behind it ?

I'm not able to register, it say that key is used by someone else, it's because I got the game from a friend at college a year ago and I have been playing on and off and I'm almost finished.

I ask you to grant me access to the support because I have nothing to do, I can't contact him to get the username.

It is fairly obvious that your friend has not cancelled his registration of the game. Unless he does, it makes no difference that he has removed the game from his computer as in the records he still has it. BTW you cannot have got the game a year ago as it was not available then to anyone, never mind that someone had time to get fed up with it enough to pass it on to you. ??? :o The game has only been out for 8 months now. ::)

Last year means Last college year (end of 2010), but this is not the problem.

the problem is that he was more of a partner for assignments than a friend so we're not it contact, and he didn't even ask for money in return be cause he "didn't like it", to put it lightly. :D

"it has performance issues and bugs", I compared my performance to the trailers you put on youtube and my game run just a little slower than your system, which is ok and I'm able to enjoy the game except a few moments of frustration. I guess a laptop would have issues with the game. that's why he gave it away. (Laptops, geesh!!)

and to our topic:

should I ask him to cancel his profile on the forum and then register it to myself ?

That would be the sensible, and obvious, thing to do.
You have not made a good start by claiming that your inability to complete a mission is a “bug”.

my problem is indeed a bug, the mission briefing does not state that I should be Extremely close to the fishing boat, and it does appear at the entrance of the Rotterdam port but it's not moving, what would you call that ? it's a bug.

it should be stated "Stay very close to the Sigita", or the environment change should happen only when both vessels are at the waypoint, so if I arrive first the game should wait until the Sigita arrive then change environment.

or the Sigita should follow me to the mooring area at Rotterdam regardless if I reach the waypoint before the Sigita.

He need not completely cancel his Profile .... he has to "Unregister" the License key(s) of all Ship Simulator products there.

In the above images, the products on the left will have the License key and on the right side of the key there will be the "Unregister" button. He has to click on that. Only after he has done that can you register it. Further, please tell him to uninstall the game from his computer to keep in line with the EULA.

now the hardest part is contacting him as he doesn't answer my calls and I haven't seen him this year at college.. (he either moved out or committed suicide :o ) .

I will re-attempt the mission (Coast Guard Duty) tonight, thank you everyone for your help.

p.s.
Is there any chance you could grant me temporary access to the Support Sections? until I manage to properly register or buy a license (if I could find a good deal) ?

I look forward to join this great family.

Unfortunately, that is not possible. The whole concept is about providing support ONLY for legal SINGLE (I don't mean unmarried ! ;D) owners of the product. If you really like SSE, you should consider buying a DVD for yourself from www.shipsim.com  . It is priced at US$ 52/-

It is not a bug.
You do not have to stay “extremely close”. The fact that it followed you to Rotterdam shows that.
You certainly should not get behind her. It should be obvious to you that she can’t follow you if you are behind her.

All you need do in Rotterdam is proceed to the docking area and wait for her to arrive. That may take a while because she is slower than you.
When AI ships are executing a “follow ship” action, they do not need to have the leading ship in sight. They navigate toward her by an autopilot that allows her to round headlands, etc. to reach her goal.
They generally do not begin to follow until the lead ship is a considerable distance ahead.

The operation of missions is explained in detail in boards accessible to legal, registered, owners of SSE.

The fact that you accepted a game from your friend without arranging for transfer of registration would indicate that one, or both, of you had his head in a dark place.
Crying “bug” and in other ways trashing the game will certainly not motivate anyone to go out of his way to help you.

Hi
Sorry I have to say this but if you are in Rotterdam there is something Wrong
because this mission is in Sydney .

I am really baffed here. ??? The Core mission "Coastguard Duty" takes place in Sydney not Rotterdam, and as has been pointed out there is NOT a bug in this mission. The mission works perfectly well and can be completed correctly.
Sorry Eric, we posted at the same instant.

Yes, it’s Sydney.
I said Rotterdam because he said Rotterdam. It’s been a while since I went through that mission for someone else. It works OK if one does not over-think it.

It is a moot point because his is probably the earliest version and he probably can’t update it if he does not have the key or access to the technical boards.
I suggest we close this topic because no further help should be given to an illegal user.

                                                                                Eric
Which version ?
1.3
or 1.3.5 ?

it's Sydney, don't know why I said Rotterdam.

@mvsmith
I arrived to the docking area but it didn't follow, I sailed back to the entrance of port Sydney and it was still there at the exact location and didn't move an inch.

We didn't "arrange for transfer of registration" because he "threw" it at me when I showed the slightest interest in it, besides I didn't expect any company to hide the support section of a forum :-\ but I thank everyone who helped.
and I didn't trash the game.

What version was this (not)Bug fixed ?

Hi Everest,
I suggest you follow the advice in TJK’s post and contact Fred. It would help if you could tell him the user name on your friend’s account. If you are in possession of the DVD, then perhaps you can be made the registered user.
Fred can find the account from the key you gave him and from that he will know the friend’s user name. He can see if there has been recent activity on that account, and with luck, perhaps some contact information. In any case, this should get sorted to your satisfaction.
It might help if you can tell Fred the date on which the DVD was thrown at you.

FYI: The reason that extended support is hidden from non-registered users is that it is the only real incentive for people to actually buy the game rather than download it from a free pirate site, along with a cracked key.
As I’m sure you know, there are perhaps thousands of different keys that unlock the game for playing. The way that DVDs are mass produced does not allow a unique key in each individual disc. Instead, the DVD responds to any key that generates a specific checksum. There are at least as many accepted keys as the number of DVDs stamped from that master.
Registering your unique key is the only way we know that you possess a legal copy.

Regards,
Marty

Hi Everest,

welcome to the forum.

If you indeed as suggested, send me the key that you are using, in a personal message, then I can pinpoint the user and get into contact with him. A name would be handy but it not necessary. Then I can also unregister it for you on his account and add it to yours.

Regards,
Fred
