Mid-Range speeds for White Marlin?
« on: April 09, 2011, 21:49:38 »

Hi

Just wondered, is it really possible to get "mid-range" speeds on the White Marlin? I was testing her out in Marseille, and at about 650RPM she was at 12 knots. I stuck it up to about 700 RPM, and she shot up to 31 knots. This means she has 1000 RPM to get from 31 to 45? Yet no real way to get speeds of about 20-30 knots...

she speeds up very quickly..
Very unrealistic for an incat that leaves the docks..
It looked like it left the dock at full speed but i only set it on 750RPM

Her acceleration speeds aren't too bad.. Just he deceleration.. Very slow, she should be able to decelerate extremely quickly, but not as fast as speeding up

She is like the Red Eagle
Only takes a few seconds to speed up but long to slow down!

Hello all,
You are right, although 800 RPM should give enough thrust to reach a 30 kn speed, and 1800 RPM around 42 kn. The high speeds were checked but in order to permit an easy low speed control below harbour speeds, the range between 200 RPM (clutch) and 800 RPM was "damped" albeit not checked for progressiveness, and as a result these intermediate speeds cannot be reached easily, if at all, because of an unwanted and sharp thrust jump. I'll correct it and asap make the draft correction available for a "non-steam" volunteer, to check how my mistake has been put to right. Thanks anyway for the remark  :-[ .
Regards,
Luc
