Built in 1915 for the Charles R. McCormick Shipping Company in 1915, the S.S Wapama is the last steam schooner that remains. The Wapama is severely dry-rotted and is in Richmond in a dry-dock. One of the people at the visitors center at the Hyde Street Pier say they want to scrap the Wapama and use the wood to restore the C.A Thayer, this was only her opinion hopefully. I would very much like to see this piece of my states history preserved.
