Hello gvecchio, welcome to the forums  When I tried to make a server just to check it out, I just clicked "Create a server" and you pick the map and weather presets and such. I did not do anything with ports or routers, but then again I don't know if It worked haha.
I am probably no help at all  But I hope you get your server up

Hi and welcome to Ship sim forum.

First you need to know what your Router IP is, Then run something called "cmd.exe"
When it's opened, Type in IP Config. Your Router IP should appear somewhere.

Open your default browser, and type your Router IP Adress into console.

Now comes the weird part. I dont know what kind of router you use, and therfor. the pages are very different.

You should come to a part called Game Application or Port Forwarding

However, I will show you the way to do it if you've got Speedtouch router.

1: Press At Toolbox button, Then press the Game & Application Settings

2: Create a new game or application

3: Give it a name, example: SSEMP1, and then press Manual entries of port maps.

4: It should look like this:

Now Press Add.

5: Now repeat step 2 - 4, But at step three,change it to "2"
and at step 4 you should change the Protocol to UDP

6: TADAA! Your ports should now be working

Hi Gvecchio,

all you have to do is to forward UDP port 55559 from your router external interface to your computer internal adress.

How to do that differs from your router's model, it's hard to give you steps on how to do that ...

Basically, if your computer's internal IP adress is 192.168.0.10 (it's just an example), you'll have to setup your router to forward (terminology might differ too ... "port forwarding", "PAT (port adress translation)", ...)  :

'router external @IP adress':UDP/55559 to 192.168.0.10:UDP/55559

If you do that, and if your computer get its IP adress automatically (by DHCP), wich is the case in most of the case, you should try to find how to setup a DHCP reservation on your router, so that your computer running extremes will always get the same IP adress from the DHCP, so that you won't need to change your port translation settings each time you want to start a server !
