Graphics card suggestions Please
« on: September 01, 2010, 18:46:38 »

Hi everybody.

I am currently running this system:

Abit IP35 Pro motherboard
4gb dual kit Ram
Nvidia 9400GT 1gb DDR2
Intel Dual Core 2 Duo E8400 @ 3.00Ghz
Windows 7 OS (all updated)

Now the card I have is borrowed after my 8800gt went boom and it doesn't run the game well even on the lowest settings, now I have a budget of around £100 (£150 at a push) and was looking at something in the line of a 9800gt or a GTX260 (might be tricky as I don't have enough power cables, but I know someone that might help).

If someone has better ideas on a card that can run this game as good as possible, (as well as Mafia 2 and Operation flashpoint) please help me, although I'd rather have suggestions on nvidia however, as I haven't had any good experiences with ATI cards.

Regards, Bouncer

Thanks for the reply :) That card looks quite nice, and well within my price range :) What kind of FPS do you get with SSE?

Well, for the standard of gaming, a minimum of 30fps is a must, normally a 60fps would be required. 1x fps is simply not acceptable.

That ludicrous statement misleads and does a disservice to those who are trying to make good decisions in acquiring or upgrading their systems. 20 FPS gives smooth performance in SSE.
Without an understanding of the way SSE works, you are hardly qualified to make such claims.

For comparison, motion pictures run at only 24 FPS, PAL TV at 25 FPS, and NTSC TV at 29.97 FPS.
Feature motion pictures are put on DVD at 24 FPS. The 2/3 pull-down is done in the DVD player.

Well, don't know the prices of a GTX260 outside of Portugal, but if it is under you budget, I would take it. With less money you have 5770 and 5850 from ATI. It's better not to compare the expected performance with other people, we have seen a lot of great systems perform badly. Besides, not all systems are equal, and sometimes people treat them very badly
