Did we had a proper prop-walk in SS08 then? I can live without prop-walk tbh  :)

I was used to Vermaas or Latitude veering to port when accelerating..
I don't know in how far it was realistic.. :)

In real life you would only notice prop-walk when the vessel is turning, or when the vessel is operating astern propulsion  :)

Hello,
Propwalk has been introduced in all ships when relevant (kort nozzles minder, niet in jets, enz), ahead only for ships with 2 shafts, astern for all ships, effect depending on the pitch CW or CCW, for FP or CP propellers.
Nothing ahead for single propeller ship, as the small rudder angle to counter the effect (1 to 2°) is almost impossible to set with today controls.
Indeed, the rudders can turn at a speed that can be seen as a maximum for existing steering units, and with the keyboard, it would be really a pain, just try to set 1°. Anyway, I think the common small offset of your needle to the right when steering under way is probably something of the past.
There will eventually be a possibility to have two response speeds for the rudders, to simulate the existence of 2 pumps, who knows?
Propwalk ahead for twin shafts ships is less a problem due to their symmetry.

Thanks Luc, I was just thinking of the many times I would go into MP with a Vermaas or Latitude, bound for the North Entrance in Marseille
Getting her up to speed would cause the ship to go at least 10 degrees to port, making it necessary to seriously compensate with the rudder.. I wonder how realistic that was.. :)

Propwalk ahead could come back if using small steering angles was enabled with keyboard or other controllers, or if some AP was introduced with an add-on or something like that. It wouldn't anyway be a great nuisance.
Latitude and Vermaas propwalk at low speeds ahead was indeed too great in SS2008. 8 to 9° rudder was needed under 5 knots ahead, down to 0° at 8 kts, at least for the stock version.
The order of magnitude of the side thrust was nevertheless realistic for the maximum possible thrust at these speeds, indicating that the cause for the compensation was elsewhere.
