First Day with SSE
« on: August 27, 2010, 23:29:34 »

I d/loaded SSE this morning, with the patch...and the game runs very smoothly for me.  No problems at all...my graphics on the game are very good and I'm quite pleased with them.  I don't have a super-duper computer either.  It's an AMD Athalon II dual core (2.8 Ghz) with 3 GB of ram and an nVidia GeForce 9500 GT 1 GB.  Program is smooth as silk.

I do have one question though...where are all the other ships?  I go into a harbor (San Fran for example), and I'm the only ship there.  Nothing in the quays, nothing at the piers, no traffic coming in or out.

Am I missing something obvious with this, or is this the way it is for now, or is it just San Fran?  Don't get me wrong, I don't mind not having to dodge my way through a harbor with the kamakaze AI ships...but some at the piers would be a nice touch.

Either way, I like the looks of SSE, and the way it plays....sound is good (but I miss the ships radio from time to time), I'm completely happy with my purchase...just had questions concerning the traffic is all.

nevermind that.. i figured out the issue- since i had a nvidia CP setting for questviewer, it used those,  which were for SS2008...

gr thats going to get frustrating swapping settings everytime.

Usually, I set my card to run the most memory hungry program I have and the rest (sort of) fall in line...I don't get into overclocking or anything like that.  I installed SSE and used the native setting that it selected for itself when it installed....which turned out that it maxed everything out...still runs good.  Having some fits and starts with some of the runs....Sailing the Agile Solution out of San Fran through the southern route (#10 I believe), and when it came time to drop the anchor in the islands, when it switched me over to the speed boat to pick up supplies, the speed boat sunk at the pier...YIKES!  Probably a hiccup in the loading....I'll run it again later on and see if it does it again.  Doing the run from Sydney to SF now...still don't have too many other ships to deal with, but when I got to the islands on the previous run, there was a nice liner there and a couple of speed boats running around...and none of them decided that I was a target...that's nice!

yeah my issue was with the 32x AA and 16x AF, thats what screwed my first run to a weak 5fps... i changed the settings tho and now have it at about 25-45... the problem is that if i go back and run SS08 i have to change my nvidia settings back to what i had, because SSE, SS08 and SS06 run through the questviewer, which is what assigns the changes from the CP to the game..

not a big deal just annoying

Doesn't nVidia allow for saving different profiles for graphics?  You'd still have to change them, but instead of it being tedious, you'd just go in and load up a specific profile for the video card...and you could name them appropriately...SS08, SSE, FSX, whatever...so you'd have the settings optimized for a specific game.  Setting them up would be a pain, but once they're all done, it should be a couple of clicks and you're on your way.

Nvidia control panel allows for specific settings for different games. For me it has worked automatically.  :captain:
