I decided to buy Windows 7 and installed it on a brand new HD as I can't be bothered to reformat my existing HD which has XP on it. (you cannot upgrade from XP to Win 7, it has to be a clean install)
Things went really smoothly with Windows 7 installation and I was really surprised how well it worked and how fast it was. Only thing which I didn't like about Windows 7 is that the 'Classic View' from Start Menu is no longer available so I am still trying find my way around and try to get used to it
I also decided to install SS2008 to see how it would work with Windows 7, and after a few trials and errors, it was working brilliantly. I have found Windows 7 to be quite strict about installing new programs, and even prevented the installation from going through, despite the fact I'm logged in as the Administrator! The only way to get around to this was right-clicking on the SS2008 setup icon and "run it as Administrator" (repeat the same process for update icons) - after that the SS2008 installation went really well.
Here's the order which I installed SS2008 on my Windows 7 PC:
1. SS2008 original disc (version 1.0) then run the program to enter the License Key. Exit program.
2. v.1x to v1.4.2 update (the 650 MB file) and run SS2008, just in case you need to type in any License Key. Exit program.
3. New Horizons then run SS2008 again to enter the License Key for New Horizons. Exit program.
4. v1.3 - v1.4.2 and you are all set up!
5. and finally Jumbo Javelin, Elbe, Furie etc. (you may be required to enter the License Key for each vessel)
And check your Profile name when you are running SS2008 (v.1.4.2). I just typed in my Forum Name and it connected OK to the Vstep server, which successfully uploaded my best times, my game stats, stars/stripes on my badges etc on my profile. (remember to save it
)
Oh and the MP is working fine for me as well.
