Navy Frigate
« on: April 03, 2009, 16:34:59 »

Wouldn't it be nice to add the navy frigate (from the sspro version)  to the shipyard, so you can download it for ss08 (non pro versions). Or is the only option to sail that vessel, paying an estimated €4000 for it?

I think that wouldn't be that bad of a idea, just make the game.. i little more expensive..
and the economic quest, isn't there anymore :)

The last time I drove Van Herwijnen, she still had no bridge. It’s possible that she will never have one if it is not necessary for her role in Pro.
So far as I know, it is still the policy that there be no warships in the entertainment version.

I think it's a weird policy..
Cause:
I think it's stupid the royal dutch navy, is so much advertising to get new and extra recruiters..
but in the other way is blocking the oppertunity to give the people a chance to look and sail a navy vessel in
this game. (just to have a slight indication what it feels like.)
I mean, not to play the game and shoot missiles or something, but just to feel what's like...etc.

And as second, i think much more copy's 'll be sold if they would add this ship, cause a much wider group
of people (i mean buyers/costumers), can be interessed in this game. And with that given, i guess it would not only be easier to sell 100 copy's for €40, then 1 for €4000.. but also get more respect for the game by a wider group of people, and that would'nt be bad for the game, i think.

I could be mistaking though..

According to the Wikipedia page on SS Pro, there are two Navy Frigates in 2.0, one by the name of "Van Herwijnen" and another from "La Fayette" class?

Also, the Wikipedia page states that this ship is in Ship Simulator Pro:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Durance_class_tanker

So in total, we have quite a lot of Military vessels in Pro, the 2 frigates, the Tanker and the Minesweeper (Yep, Wikipedia says Pro has one of those too).

There're also: Inland container vessel - Mare Australe & Natural gas platform - Norman 1.

Isnt the Norman 1 the jack up rig MVSmith showed earlier?

Pro is designed for training both in merchant navies and in military organizations, often by special contract. Therefore, there are many warships in Pro. That does not mean that they will ever be in the entertainment version.
As for the argument that inclusion of warships would increase the customer base, the opposite is likely to be the case.

Sorry - the opposite is likely to be the case? Why do you say that?

I can't seem to find a poll on here re: navy ships or not, has there been one?

I just think it'd be a good thing to have amongst all the other types of ships in here. You can sail practically anything in here, so why not a frigate or aircraft carrier? (aside from them having to be created)

One point I don't understand is is that everyone (mainly) that says they don't want it is because they assume it'll have working guns and such on it, when clearly that isn't necessary for it to be in the game at all! I just want to have a go at sailing in one :)

They are too expensive, with this financial Crysis and all..  :)

@Chris, you are right..  Guns are mostly what people fear on such a boat, specially the havok it could mean, for MP. But without them it's just be another vessel. And rammers can do more harm, more easily, in the samll RIB's anyway, I reckon.

Yes, I know.. they are not made with a highly detailed game model in mind.  ;D
I found a runabout hull there, and imported it in sketchup to learn from it, it had about 30.000 polys, just for the hull alone..  way too much.

Then I took the bodyplans of an almost similar one, and did it 'the oldfashioned way' by doing it from scratch just with sketchup, from the plans. It's not done yet, but hull wise about 90% finished.

Nearly similar hull (barrelback) and with my way, it now only has about 1.700 polys so far..  What a difference indeed!

With smoothing, it looks about as good too. Maybe a tadge less 'flowing' of course, but you'd never see that when textured, or ingame. And that leaves 23.000 polys for the rest of it, to keep to the low end of the poly limit.. more than enough, I reckon.

But let's get back on topic.. Or I'll have to reprimand myself..   ::)

No, you can use your free "Supreme Lord of the Forum" pass. That permits you to post anywhere you wish at any time. It also requires that all forum members fall prostrate on the floor, hiding their face from your majestic gaze, and that they tremble in fear in case your imperial thoughts focus on their meagre existence.

Or something like that.

Aplogies for bringing up an old topic.

I see that the minesweeper in question is the Royal Navy's Sandown Class  - a vessel which is propelled by Voith Schneider unit  :2thumbs:

If I ever win the Lotto, I want one of these for playing with the Red Eagle  ;D Click here: Voith Schneider simulator console (http://www.km.kongsberg.com/ks/web/nokbg0240.nsf/AllWeb/5609EFFACB0E372FC1256D7C0038FC10?OpenDocument)
