The most sucessful short sea ferries on the world!
« on: December 06, 2008, 11:54:35 »

hi people,
Here is a tibute to the most sucessful Short sea ferries in the world. These are the Pride of Dover and the Pride of Calais. No other ferries have been more sucessful in their careiers than these two. But the time has come to replace these two 24 year old ships. I think they would be a great edition to SS09. Do you agree?
(I u want to find out more on these two and there fleetmates of the world famous port of Dover then type Doverferryphotos in google ;D)

What about the Gosport Ferry, dodging all the cross channel ferries and warships, not to mention one or two cargo vessels. ;) ;)

It was very unusual to use Voith-Schneider-Propulsion for larger, non-double-ending ferries so far. The shown ferry has just a normal bow rudder, like a few other ferries around Europe. This makes sense, when the ship has to sail a longer distance astern after slipping the ropes or before berthing. In the moment I just remember an old train ferry, serving the Puttgarden-Roedby link between Germany and Denmark with a single VSP at the bow... :)

Let's get this straight, the right name for the propulsion system is Voith-Schneider..with an n..
Is that correct..?
Google Voith-Scheider and you get lots of hits.. ;)
