I did 'read the question', but it seems you yourself did not. You asked if anyone knew what this discount code option was, not; "How do I get one?" That's two different things you know! As I said, if you get a discount code, you can fill it in there to get a discount, easy as that.
If it was your license key, then it would say license key, and not discount code. And why would you go and ask for a discount, just like that?
You as a normal customer would not get a discount code without it being some special occasion.
I don't know exactly what all the cases are where they would give one out, but you can bet it's the usual stuff. For people (or companies or institutions) that want to order a large batch of the game or an addon, for example, or for people who have gone through unnecessary troubles with the purchase, who VSTEP feels deserve a discount to make things right, that kinda stuff.
If any of us are entitled to it, rest assured, you would know about it, you're not missing out on anything here, don't worry. This really is very basic stuff, and discounts are very common too. So forgive me for being a bit jolly about it earlier, but you have that grey mass for a reason, after all.
