She is not the holder of the record for the eastbound crossing. In 1990, Hoverspeed Great Britain—an oceangoing catamaran—took the Blue Riband at an average speed of 36.6 knots.

I am aware of that.  This post is meant for the fastest ocean liner in the world, not a catamaran.  The S.S. United States beat the Queen Mary's record, and since then, no other ocean liner has got over 35 knots.

That’s because there are no more ocean liners.
The sooner SS United States is towed to Alang the better. Perhaps this silly subject can be put to rest.

I can't believe you've saying that!

First of all, I care a lot about ocean liners.  I mean I'm not only interested in the Titanic.  The jet brought about her end (curse you jets!).

QM2 is a cruise ship.
The day of the transatlantic liner is long past. Arguably the best example of that genre is preserved in the Queen Mary. We don’t need another example that was inferior in all respects except top speed.
