For its professional training simulation branch, VSTEP is currently developing a new line of maritime training simulators, scalable from on-board desktops to 360-degree Full Mission Bridge Simulators in training centers. The new simulator products will combine the best looking graphics with the most accurate ship simulation
and the most user-friendly instructor station, offered at an attractive price level.

To strengthen the simulator development team, VSTEP has an opening for a:

MARITIME SIMULATOR DEVELOPER

Job Type: Full-time
Location: Rotterdam, The Netherlands

To strengthen the simulator development team, VSTEP is looking for a software engineer or computer scientist with a hydrodynamic or aerodynamic background. Join our young and international development team, and help us change the world of maritime training and entertainment!

Job description:

You will join the development team of the next generation Ship Simulator engine, to be used for both the game and for professional training products,

with tasks like:
  • Integrating the Nvidia/Ageia PhysX engine for the vessel dynamics, and the effect of wind, current and collisions.
  • Improving the autonomous vessel behaviour, so ships behave according to the International Collision Regulations
  • Developing the instructor station, with a highly graphical and friendly user-interface
  • Introducing animated characters on the vessels, which can communicate with the player

Qualifications:

  • MSc in Maritime Technology, Hydrodynamics, Aerodynamics, Physics or equivalent
  • Nautical experience on professional vessels or yachts
  • Knowledge of basic ship hydrodynamics
  • Experience in software development using C++, C#, Java or equivalent
  • Strong teamworking and communication skills
  • Previous experience with working on training simulators is a plus
