How to speed up the custom Harbor Patrol?
« on: June 10, 2007, 20:51:14 »

Hello,

I've been experimenting with the speed of the custom harbor patrol xP. Yes, you can edit this. Go to C:\Program Files\Vstep\ShipSim2006\Actors\act_dynamic_objects

You'll see a .xml file called Act_P6_Port_authorities_custom.xml.
Open it. You'll see Engine Power: 25000. This is the speed. Rightclick and press view source. Edit the number of the Engine Power, higher = it will go faster xP duh. I warn you, don't put the speed very high, like 1,250,000, I tried that and my boat flied literally. I got my boat's speed set at 125000 and it's almost as fast as the Power Boat =). Oh, and...

Name - Display name of the P6 (default = Port Authorities - Custom)
Price - Value of the ship (default = 500000)
Weigth - Weigth of the ship (default= 900000, so 90 tons)
SteerMaxDegrees - Maximum angle in which the ship can steer both left and right (default = 45)
EnginePower - Power of the engine (default = 25000)
BoatPosTowFront - Position where the tow rope attaches on the front of the ship (default = 0 1.8 11.588583)
BoatPosFL - Front left position of the dynamics shape used (default = 5 0 30)
BoatPosFR - Front right position of the dynamics shape used (default = -5 0 30)
BoatPosBowThruster - Position of the bow thruster (default = 0 1 10)
BoatPosCM - Center of mass of the ship (default = 0 0 3)
VecVolume - Describes to total volume of the ship (default = 5.6 2.5 25)
BoatPosTowBack - Position where the tow rope attaches on the back of the ship (default = 0 1.35 -11.528015)
BoatPosBL - Back left position of the dynamics shape used (default = 5 0 -30)
BoatPosBR - Back right position of the dynamics shape used (default = -5 0 -30)
LeftEnginePosition - Position of the left engine (default = -2 0.5 -13)
RightEnginePosition - Position of the right engine (default = 2 0.5 -13)
RudderStrength - Strength of the rudder (default = 0.9)

Have fun xP

Sounds as though you are having fun.  there was a thread about this on the old forum you might want to look at.

I tried experimenting with the center of mass and didn't seem to see any effect. I think thata is also true of weight, but I don't remember any more (incipient Alzheimer's  ;) ).

If you raise the rudder strength you can make her pretty squirrelly.

Cheers,
Michael

Click on start, left bottom of your screen.
Then click on My Documents.
Then go to C:\
Then in C:\ click on the folder called Program Files.
In Program Files click on the folder called Vstep.
There, click on the folder called ShipSim2006.
Then click on the folder called Actors, and then the folder act_dynamic_objects and there you go ;).

Just discovered how.

Go to C:\Program Files\Vstep\ShipSim2006\Actors\act_dynamic_objects

In there, there is a file called "Act_P6_Port_Authorities_Custom"

It is a psd file, and opens with Microsoft Photo Premium, or Jasc Paint Shop Pro (Now called Corel." if u have it. Will not open in paint.

For Paint Shop Pro:

Speed up and jump effects. are indeed very funny.

I know it may not belong here, but I have some ideas for a new ship simmulator.
1) Sail with fuel economy instead of plain being the fastest.
2) Night navigation
3) time to cross ocean 2 hours (big steamers did it in 4 days, translate that to hours might take to long for most people (personally I do not mind doing it in 4 days realtime)
40 possibillity to rearange some missions that are ingame, to be read only and have to be saved under new name..
5) possibility to build little harbours. Make the program more LEGO like.
6) would love to construct own ships in the game, or more customable ships.
7) Possibillity to walk on kays after mooring.
urm, I am new, so if any moderator think this message belong somewhere else, be my guest.

Okay Shipaddict, here's my custom .xml file.

http://www.sendspace.com/file/6vngme

Steer max degrees will be 75 instead of 35.
Engine power will be 125000 instead of 25000 (I think this is as fast as the power boat).
Name is Queen Mary 2 because my custom ship is called so xP.
I did not edit anything else.

Download that file, rightclick it and press "Cut", go to C:\Program Files\Vstep\ShipSim2006\Actors\act_dynamic_objects and paste the file there. It says there will be a file already called so, do you want to overwrite it? Say yes.

EDIT: IF YOU DON'T WANT TO KEEP THIS FOREVER, MAKE A BACKUP!
Do this by highlighting the Act_P6_Port_authorities_Custom.xml which was already in it, then pressing Ctrl + C and then Ctrl + V. A file named Copy of Act_P6_Port_authorities_Custom.xml will appear. THEN overwrite it. Place this copy somewhere else.

When you want the normal speed / steer max degrees back, remove the Copy of part in the name and place it back in the folder.

Then open the game, edit a mission, put your CUSTOM Port Authorities (not normal one) in it, save the mission and play ;D. Have fun.

People who do not know how to edit the file can ask me to edit it, I'll do that, or search through my posts, I explained how in one of them.
