On the 30th of January at 2300hrs The Ocean Going cargo barge ( NORSUL 12) and her Push boat NORSUL VITORIA arrived at Sao Francisco do Sul during bad weather. The barge was loaded with Rolled stell coils from Tubarao. During the passage part of the cargo had rolled and cause a big list to the barge, they tried to bring inside inner anchorage but no success and the barge with her push boat capsized and sunk at 8m draft (Shallow water) The pilot/master brought the barge out of the channel into the shallow water with the inttetion to aground and delay the big list and have a time to same all lifes.
17 persons jump in the water, the pilot boat (P4) start to rescue all. The chief engineer was onboard at somewhere. 0200hrs later another pilot boat involved into the rescue found a flash of light comming from the Push boat dinning room, divers where trying to open an access but no success, the barge start to capsize more (Now 45 Dg) and finally the C/E broken the window and pass trhough it and jump in the water.
The barge is loaded with 340 coils with the total 9.000.mts
No life had been lost
