AI MUST be slower in SS2008!
« on: May 25, 2007, 21:52:36 »

Hi,

I really want the AI vessels be much slower than normal.
The inland cargo ships are going in ss2006 to fast, just like al other ships.
And i never saw a huge containership with topspeed sailing in a harbor   :(
AND i cant even keep up with the inland cargo vessels, when steering the patrol boat.
I gave my P6 edited boat a huge boost to keep up with these ships.
So please MTV, pimp my r....
i mean..please Vstep, slower the AI in SS2008  ;D

Thanks, as i'm speaking for a lot others.

Indeed. It has been a concern for quite some time.

It always bothers me when I pilot the Ocean Star into or around Rotterdam - I have to always watch out for the Containers moving at flank speed, because they will plow into me. Also, I cannot move into the other traffic lanes because inland containers are moving at 12 knots. So I have become good at gambling, keeping my eyes peeled on the GPS, I am always using binoculars, and always standing by the rudder and thrusters to move aside for the speedy vessels. Of course, being such a large ship, they should be . . .  Waiting for me.

yep,
I also agree, those darn containers and inlands are aiming for you.
In one of the missions, (i forgot which one) you have to take a container ship down a bit to another unloading crane. It took me about 5 times before i could finally MAKE IT INTO THE LANE!!
And it was BS when a smaller little taxi like vessel plowed into ya and that little bugger made ur whole ship go down. need more realistic collision where the bigger ships have the right to smash into smaller vessels and nudge them out of the way. but that was the problem of not having anti-collosion feature into the game.

In the end the AI simply needs to move more slowly and needs to have a larger range of detection of player vessels so that it may have more time to respond and reduce the chances of a collision

Tell those skippers of the AI ships that they must adhere to the "Rules of the Road" like all other vessels, maintaining a constant watch and be able to react to the situation around them.

 ;D
Regards  Mark,

Now where did I put my copy of the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea!

Good point people, I'll make sure the developers get to hear about it.
