Ship Sim..... Bit of a let down!
« on: January 06, 2014, 16:54:18 »

First off, I'm not one to normally post in forums to bitch about games, but felt that this Ship Sim has the potential to be so good that I had to speak up in hopes that others feel the same way and the game designers felt inclined to listen to its customers, so with that out of the way.....

I bought Ship Sim Extremes having not played any of the other games in the title and was itching to try out my sea legs, graphics looked amazing and dreamt of going and getting lost at sea sailing off into the sunset. So imagine my disappointment to learn that, yes, you can sail around the world, but only around the ports of the world. My plan of sailing from Southampton to Sydney was soon shattered as I would sail off, hit an area and be transported to Sydney harbour, how boring! After playing titles such as Silent Hunter where you can literally sail wherever you want I found this Ship Sim lacking, even restrictions in free roam. Would it really of been that difficult to include this option in the game? Any chance that this will be rectified in the future or will I end up removing the game from my HDD and going back to being a submariner?

Well, if I were you, i wouldn't delete this game from my pc because it's a really interesting game and you can learn many things about marinetime life from it. As a response to your problem I say that if game designers designed all world, the game would stuck and you wouldn't enjoy it eventhough you could travel around the world...Moreover it's impossible for designers to create all world's harbours... That's my view. You really have to try this game because it really gives you the feeling of being on a vessel .

Have a nice sailing,
George

Are you happy to sit in front of your computer for a number of weeks whilst sailing from Southampton to Sydney? It would be completely unrealistic to do so, which is why the game is restricted to a, quite large, number of ports. if you master the mission editor you can jump from one environment to any other one by programming the editor to do so. The game works on a real time basis, and even very fast ships do not go all that fast.

Wow. I get bored with FSX flying at real time for a couple of hours. I can just imagine sailing real time halfway or three quarters way around the world. BTW, I really don't care much for speeding up the time.

Ocean is ocean or at least looks the same anyway and I would suggest just using the atlantic ocean as varying oceans you will encounter along the way. Besides what is there to do besides maintain a course when in open water? I know in the real world lots of things but not so much in SSE but If I wanted to do the "real things" I would have my mariner's license.

I myself Love SSE. Yes there are some bugs but what sim doesn't. Simulators seem to push the envelope(Desktop Sims anyway) and there is a limit to what the average computer can and can't do with even a really powerful PC.

Anyway I would like to thank VSTEP for providing me many hours of entertainment during down and personal times so my hat's off to ya'.
