P&O Pride of Dover
« on: June 22, 2007, 23:01:48 »

Just a point

P&O Pride of Dover smacked the berth in Dover after running from Calais. No one badly hurt, but significant damage to stern doors.

Jst wondering if any British or French members might have some photos.... :)

I would love to see this as well. I did not hear about this incident.

I have been on that ship once, when I went from Calais to Dover.

Nice (but old) ship.

It is one of the last ships with accesable decks on the sides of the ship.

Old? 21 years old... I think there are older.

It has PARTIAL accessable decks along the sides, but I wouldn't call it unique. I think most ferries (except the really new ones) have this.

The old Spirit class had open decks right above the car deck... some 20ft from the water. Now THATS fun in rough weather...

I would supply a photo, but have no idea how to put it in here.

Just klick on additional options and than add it as a attachment.

Well, I have been on that ship and on a new one (Pride of Canterbury), and the new one only had accessable decks on the top of the stern. I liked the old one the most.

Ships normally sail 30 years, and beceaus the P&O Pride of Dover is 21 years old I would call it an old ship.
(But I don't know much about ferries.)

And I think it is one of the oldest vessels which go from Calais to Dover.

Yes, fair point. But last time I went on(PO Calais) they had both had a big refurbshment and looked impressive.

I havent been on the new Canterbury. Ive been on the Burgundy and swear I will swim before I go back on that heap. Not impressed by the conversion and the crew are not the best in the P&O fleet by any stretch of the imagination (I will leave it there lest one of the moderators decides I might upset P&O by telling some stories of that ship).

P&O used to have the newest, fastest, best fleet. (P&O still way the best, IMHO) but SeaChance has caught them up and with Government spending (so much for free market) bought two new ships. P&O never the same since Lord Sterling retired. P&O cruises=Carnival.P&O ferries/ports= DWP.

On the right is the Pride of Dover and on the left is its modern equivalent I'm not sure if she is still running. I took this from a different ferry Crossing the channel a few years back.

Not much use in bumping a 6 year old topic.
