« on: September 15, 2011, 23:08:07 »

I just got the game but i have no knowledge about ship operations or whatever you want to call it. So I was wondering if someone could please tell me what all the different lights and and connections are used for. Thanks.

Hello Kain,

Welcome to the Forum.

Yes, the tutorial by Ballast is an excellent one to guide you about the use of various navigation lights different types of vessels use.

Please clarify if what is explained in the SSE Manual is a little too complex for you. If this is the case then I can use that as a reference and provide some explanations.

In a few issues from 2009 of the ShipSim Magazine i did a few articles about the basics of manoeuvering. You might want to read that. I also desribed the names and purpose of all the various lines you can connect and which ones are usefull to get the ship alongside and towing  :)

I can fully recommend Ballast's tutorials on moving ships in the Ship Sim Mags, they were very useful - only problem was that I still managed to bang the wall - sorry - quay after reading them

You just have to keep in mind that the ship doesn't stop right away due to the momentum. You have to think a few steps ahead :D It's just something you have to 'feel' to stop early and let her nicely drift to where you want to have her.  :) Practise is the magic word..  8)
