I found this on wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ship_Simulator
Main part of the article was Ship Simulator is a vehicle simulation computer game which simulates maneuvering various ships in different environments, ]although without the effects of wind and current. It was developed by Dutch company VSTEP and released by the Former Company Lighthouse Interactive, which closed down in 2009.
Ok so shouldn't effects of wind and current be in SS ? and who replaced Lighthouse Interactive? So I remembered the Sim uses an engine called Quest3D. Why has VSTEP used this game engine since it does not allow special effects like realistic smoke, wakes, waves foam in the game? And I remember that Titanic was a heavy polly ship but that makes no difference because I have seen ships that size or bigger in Silent Hunter 3,4,5 with amazing explosion effects which if you do have a good rig can handle it. When I tryed looking for more Info to understand why VSTEP has chosen Quest3D, I could not find any. I did look it up on the net and I gotta say it's impressive, so what went wrong here?
If you look here, you are looking at pretty eye candy stuff this can deliver
