CPU not good enough?
« on: January 15, 2011, 21:22:57 »

I submitted this to support

I increased my memory to 4 gb
I have a Dell Vostro 200
Intel Pentium Dual CPU E2160 @ 1.80 GHz
32 big Windows 7 operating system
Display  adapter is Intel G33/G31 with NVIDIA FX5200
Dual Displays
Screen Resultion 1680 x 1050
I am running WD MemeoBackup which uses a good bit of CPU time
Also have Webroot Antivirus and AntiSpyware but have it set on gaming mode.  I also turned it off and still no luck.

When program finishes loading I get all kinds of images flashing on the screen.  Just keeps doing it and the sound is broken up.  Have to use Ctl-Alt-Del to stop the program.

Based on what I read it would appear my CPU is the problem.  Would another version run on my system?  If so would they provide me with the proper software?  If not will they refund my money?

Thanks

Hi Jay,

Welcome to the Forum.

As I see, 1.80 Ghz for the processor is rather low as you need a minimum of 3.0 Ghz as processor clock speed.

Besides this the FX 5200 graphics card too, is way below the recommended GeForce 8800 GT for SSE.

RAM at 4GB is good since you have Win 7.

The low performance of SSE is due to these drawbacks. There is only one version of SSE and it has since been updated to Version 1.3 through patches. I quite doubt you will get a refund. System Requirements have been made very clear in the website and also on the box of the DVD. Where did you buy it from ?

Hi
Thanks for the reply.

I purchased it directly from the SSE web site.

Hi again Jay,

Unfortunately your config, is not suitable even for the predecessors Ship Simulator 2008 and 2006. You may just about scrape into 2006 (but your rig is still below specs)

Please explore the possibilities of upgrading your PC.

I gather you have the DVD version. Jay, if you wish to experience this version, you need to upgrade your processor and video card. That again depends on whether the motherboard can accept a new processor and graphics card. Further, the power supply unit should also be of adequate wattage to support an upgraded graphics card.
