SS2008 Wave Control
« on: December 05, 2010, 16:48:23 »

Now that Ship Simulator 2008 is no longer supported as Ship Simulator Extremes is out, I was wondering whether VSTEP can allow us to change the waves in Ship Simulator 2008 again by going to the "weatherpresets" and changing an entry in it.

Seeing as they stopped users from doing that after the 1.4.2 patch. I find this a great shame as like I have seen on YouTube you can increase the sizes of the waves depending on what the user wants, rather than what the game limits them to.

I would just like to make the waves slightly bigger than what they can currently go, as I can see on YouTube video's that waves can go incredibly high and I would like to mimic that in Ship Simulator to see how I could cope in a Force 10 storm.

I know that if VSTEP did change it back and allowed us to change the wave's height again that it would be doing so at my own risk and anything that happened (crashes, problems) because of me changing the height of the wave, VSTEP could not support.

Thanks for reading, what do you think?

Cheers

Cheers chris for the fast reply,

I understand now as to why this can't be done, scanned though the "Limited Software Warranty and License Agreement"

Its a shame as it would of been great to of been able to simulate that of a "real" storm, with towering waves crashing against your ship.

Thanks once again for clearing that up.

Cheers.

Hi CaptainM

Well, that loophole should never have been there in the first place, back in V1.0. That's why it was closed down. And there's not really a chance it will be made available again.

But, even if there would be a chance to do that again, trust me, you really won't be getting anything reallly nice out of it.

The ships will not behave normally in those kinda conditions at all.. and quite frankly, it just doesn't look good when the waves get too high either, in my humble opinion. The ocean system was less evolved so there's not really going to be towering waves in a realistic shape or form, anyway. So even though it would become a massive storm, it would be rather silly and the ships would not respond to it very well.  Or actually... they'd react very poorly even. The game was simply not designed for that.  :)

and just as an additional note, SS08 might no longer be in development, but it's still supported, as in, technical support is still given and such, as the game is still for sale after all. So all the other things like the EULA restrictions, they all still apply just the same, regardless of SSE being out.

Alas, I don't think this one will be granted.

Regards,
Fred
