Is SSO8 suitable for cadets and Linking computers
« on: November 11, 2010, 10:52:01 »

Hello,

I run cadets (14yrs -18yrs old)would like to get a basic simulator for them to practice nav, bouyage etc and of course have fun. I am thinking about getting 4 sets of ss08 and linking 4 computers so that they can run exercises together. So I have a few questions.

Is sso8 suitable? We have tried the demo and enjoyed it.
Is it possible to link computers together lan style?
Is it possible to split some of the output? e.g. radar on one screen, visual on another?
Any other thoughts? I know VSTEP publish more sophis simulators but we are not made of money. (Who is?)

Thanks for any replies.

The downside of using SSE for your purpose is that you need 4 high end machines to run it flawless.

SS08 does miss alot of buoys and other aids to navigation, but it sure will give your cadets a good impression.

You might also want to look at SS06 professional. It sure hasn't much eye candy like SS08 and SSE but SS06 professional has a NMEA interface which supports standard navigation equipment and software.
