Insane guy
« on: October 15, 2010, 16:02:45 »

Could anybody tell to VStep to do a new patch in order to delete that "moron and insane guy" who`s going jumping and running with a little motorboat and sinking our ships. Two days ago I was docking Agile Solution and I could see suddenly a rare wake running from back. The "moron and insane guy" jumped from the depths against my ship and sank it. Two and a half hours of delicated maneuver. If I find him I kill him.

It`s really hard to believe this "thing" be a bug. Won`t be a joke? Intentionally They couldn`t do it better.

If you please VStep. Thanks

Hi Tinchu,

Is this on the Muliplayer servers or in missions/freeroam?

It happens in Free roaming.

Hola Tinchu,

I think it depends on what port you were in!
It would seem that at the moment in Patch V1.2. the AI traffic is a little crazy especially different ports.
For example I think Padstow is the worst.

But I'm sure they will fix these problems soon!

I hope they fix it. The idiot sank my battleship cruise ship after I'd spent a half an hour on maneuvers.    It was at the Western Docks of Southampton Waters, Free roaming - The Solent. Oh, this time it was a Red 4, high speed passenger ferry.

Gentlemen,

The hard fact is that AI traffic does not strictly obey COLREGS, and never will. Where possible, AI ships will slow, stop, or change course to avoid you, but only within their normal maneuvering capabilities (stopping distance, ROT, etc.).

Their avoidance capability also depends upon the commands given to them by the creator of the mission. Unfortunately AI is used inappropriately in many missions.

You, the player, should operate under rule 2 at all times. You are expected to be on the lookout for AI and stay out of their way. All of your complaints will not change that fact.

AI behavior may be improved over time, but the only solution in the short term may be to remove all AI from the free roam environments.

AI was never intended to be used as scenery, but only to serve some function in the story of the mission, or to present a challenge to the player.

All well and good. However, many users like to operate in the sandbox mode. It would be great to have a different AI routine for the Free Roaming area. And what about that jumping, diving, flying boat that does all of its' insane gyrations even when it's not near another vessel?

The behavior of small craft such as speed boats and even Red Jet in sea states that are beyond the capability of their dynamics to handle stably accounts for some of the weird behavior.
If you want AI in free roam environments, especially what most consider required for D/C, then you must be willing to pay for the lowered frame rates and, if you insist on big waves, occasional flying boats.
The problems involved in AI are not easily solved on computers that the majority of customers can afford.
When users begin creating their own missions and free roam environments, they can tailor the AI to their individual tastes. Till then, you will have to take it as it is. My own opinion is that it was unwise to include any AI in the free roam environments.

??? No big waves were present when my AI's were behaving erratically. The wind slider was set at just below 'Moderate'.

I am taking it as it is. :) I would rather have a few glitches in the graphics than having to sail in a sterile environment. Including AI in free roam was a good choice, because it's what most of us want and expect.

I have also been the victim of the "Insane guy".  In freeroaming I tried to do the Cowes-Southampton route with the Red Eagle and almost made it to the Red Funnel terminal in Southampton when the rogue pleasure yacht "Bangalore" rammed me before going into an endless loop of crashing/accelerating/crashing into the area between the Red Funnel terminal and the adjacent pier.

I have no problem with AI ships not obeying COLREGS, but I feel that this incident is different from not obeying the rules of the road.  It's just plain odd that the "Bangalore" would enter the Red Funnel terminal area because there is no where to go except to turn around and go back.  It feels like the yacht deliberately tried to find my player vessel, something that seems even more likely now that others have experienced the same problem in various areas around Southampton

These luxury Yacht is at the BORA BORA RACE MISSION too., What I think is the vessel's dynamic and CG that are a bit high, making the boat very light and sensivity for any swell.

Good mention....
