Patch 1.2 - still not playable ship dynamics

I just downloaded Patch 1.2 in the hope of getting a playable game right now. But unfortunately the biggest bug has not been fixed yet: ship dynamics.

Yes I know, you will start complaining that if I expect real ship behaviour I should buy something else. But all I wanted is a playable ship dynamic at least as it is in SS08!

How can you berth a vessel which as soon as it touches the pier (which is normal) will be bounced back with 2 knots like a flummy??
Furthermore, since the update ship controls are not working properly anymore. Thruster stays on even if you put it to zero, same with the engines. Or they do not react at all... Poor performance!

Definitely I am disappointed and slowly turning to have a look what the POC colleagues have created sinced I changed to Ship Simulator...

I agree. Furthermore, they haven't changed the controls for "Red Eagle", which makes her almost impossible to control. How many ships do you think is controlled fiddling around like that?

For God's sake: just bring back the SS2008 controls! It's as easy as that.

And controllable pitch propellers: It's doesn't work as slowly as that, at least on the medium-sized ships.
The need for a land-based view is still present, as with a window for a second view.

Well obviously things that were not mentioned in the changelog were not changed (yet).  :)

And.. 'as easy as that' is always something that people say who don't really know what might be involved.

Remember, this is not a further development of SS08,... SSE is completely new, from the ground up. If it was 'as easy as that', they would have done it already, I would think.  ;D

Yes, but ship dynamics was in the changelog...

By the way: Why do they build up a complete new game when they have a solid basis as it is with SS08? When I played SSE for the first time it seemed to me that they took SS06 as a basis and improved the graphics, because many achievements from SS08 are missing in SSE and user-wishes have not been looked after.

Sorry to be as harsh - because I am a fan of Ship Simulator and very often use it for my profession - but the new game is not a further development but a start from zero - and that makes us faithfull users angry/disappointed!

Yes, and well, I do see improvement in some of the ship's behaviour to be honest. But I don't know exactly to what extend, which ships, were altered, I am afraid.

As for your other question, I reckon SS08 could not be brought up to modern standards. At one point, software reaches a point where you can't update it to use all the latest technology any more. And the whole core of the game had to change anyway.

Then a choice has to be made. Do you make something new and work your way into the future, with all the hickups and teething problems that might arise, or do you stay in the past?

I think it would be nice to have a sort of 'sailor's club' among the players, who could bring their advises on ships' behaviour. By this I mean those of us who work as mates/captains could bring advise. If VStep would be interested, that is.

That kind of feedback is always welcome, indeed!!!  I think I can speak for them to that regards.

Factual, to the point feedback from people from the maritime profession will certainly be helpful.

However, there is a fair share of such people also already involved with the game as such.

And before one says 'well they're not doing a good job then' I'd like to point out that there's also a lot of positive feedback from players in the above mentioned profession that say there's a big improvement on various ships' behaviour. But it depends on what part of the behaviour you mean.

The collision system that makes one bounce off a pier is not the same as the actual sailing characteristics as such, or things like the controls functions. So I´m not sure in which light the word ´dynamics´ was meant here. Cause it´s not just one thing.

I do think they need to take a very close look at collision dynamics, not just sensitivity to damage.  I got bumped the other night by one of the speed boats while sailing the supertanker, and I came out of the collision heavily damaged with 17 knots of way on.  I had started at about 3 knots.  Sorry, that's just wrong. :)

Sincerelly the problem is with the ship's dynamics and its behavior.
The ship's interaction have to be well cauculated for each ship. ( A good job had been done into the SS08, So let's share the ideas and knowledge and then increase the SSE as with the best quality as possible. ;)

Ship's interaction and Dynamic influencing on her behavior:
Simulation of ship maneouvring is usually conducted for the still water
condition. Time-domain simulation of ship motion is restricted to in-plane
motion comprising of surge, yaw and sway motion components. If waves are
encounted for, their effect is taken into account as a steady state one.
In protected waters this components are well observed during ship berthing or unberthing.

The method which evaluates in time-domain ship rigid body motions in waves
and manuoeuvring is presented briefly. The so called two-stage approach
(Matusiak, 2000, Matusiak, 2001) is used when evaluating non-linear responses.
The method preserves best features of the linear seakeeping theory and takes
into account most important non-linearities. As a result the loss of ship stability
in waves and parametric resonance of roll are numerically predicted. Ship
maneouvring in regular waves can be simulated, too.

Unfortunately, the so-called Patch 1.2 has done very little to fix, what appears to be a very defficient and defective product. Now, I suspect the administrators will answer with phrases like, "give it a chance its designed on a new platform". "give them time to work the bugs out", etc, etc.

Let's face it, many of the bugs that Ship Simulator Extremes (SSE) has, would have been evident even to a monkey had the said monkey been asked to beta test the program.  How this product even got out into the market in the condition that it is in, is a testament to the incompetance of the person(s) who decided it was ready to release and sad to say, to the gullibility of us who bought it and are not demanding a return of our money.

We all know and have heard that this is a totally different program from the Ship Simulator 2008. There is nothing wrong with that concept. But, to sell a program at the development stage that SSE is at (it must be in the development stage because it is definitely not in the fully operational stage) will do more harm to future sales than anything. 

I am sure all of us realize that all programs, especially complex simulations, are going to have a few bugs discovered after their release and require patches to correct them. But the problems with SSE are huge and so evident that I can't for the life of me believe that the developers did not know about them when the program was released. My advice is that this program should be pulled off the shelves until it has been brought up to a standard where it is ready to be properly beta tested by competent people and then, after testing and fixing any bugs that showed up in the testing, then release it for public sale. Don't con people into paying to beta test your product.

Sincerelly we had to comming positive in many different way, it's not a moment to make attacks our even complain repeating coments which had been already posted ;)

We all would like to have to many fixes in particular of each person....  :doh: I have my as well.

As usual I believe they are working hard to improve the SSE at all.
