I've just installed norton 360, everything is acting very strange..

I cannot view my emails, because when I try to go to MSN I get a certificate error;

Also Its messing around with MSN messenger too, its now not letting me recieve files from people like screenshots..

I'm not yet sure of anything else, but program shortcuts have starting to appear on my desktop when i reboot.. like iTunes..

Is this normal behaviour?? I don't think so.. This might be another problem with my PC..

Any help would be appreciated

Did you have iTunes before? Because my dad installed Norton on his laptop and he never had iTunes before and he does now.

Yes I used to have iTunes.. But never had it on my desktop..

I'm sure Norton has done something major to my PC..

The speed on SS MP is

faster, much quicker now.. Loads the MP server list quickly, no jumpiness at all during gameplay..

The graphics has gotten better too

...

I might run SH3 later to see if thats been affected..

Also I ran MSN Messenger, with SS on top of that.. Before I HAD to close MSN Messenger completely down to play SS, because If I hadn't I got poor game performance..

Its like my PC has had a big upgrade

Should this happen??? I hope I installed Norton correctly

God to hearer you PC is in good shape again yes I think Norton 360 has something to do with it, because it defrag you HD and dos it hole the time mostly and take care on your pc and it's not enjoying you so much it's backup, take char of spam mail and it say if you go on a unsafe website and clan your HD , and when you live you pc n360 jobs in the background, so yes I think that has to do with your pc performance
I Use the Norton 360 myself and have the same experience it's a free update to it that has with spam mail to do, you most download it separate from Norton's website the name is Norton Add one pack that pack as spam block ,ad block for websites may be you already have it

Hi.

After using Norton products for years (2003 was their best ever!), they see to have gone downhill, causing more and more problems and taking more and more resources from the PCs.

As a result, having tried 360 on 10 different PCs, we uninstalled them all and now use AVG Corporate edition. (The free version is very good if you don't want to spend money).

So, yes, your problems seem to be pretty normal with Norton. On the tecchie boards that I infest, problems with Norton come up all the time. No particular theme just lots of different problems.

The other thing that I HATE is that when you renew using a credit card, they now automatically take the right to charge you annually unless you go in and cancel it. Of course, that fact is not obvious and the cancellation process is not quick or easy. Seems most untrustworthy behaviour to me. So I don't trust them any more. It is getting difficult to tell the thieves from the protectors nowadays.

This laptop has Norton 2003 installed. When Norton no longer support it, I will install AVG.

Maybe this can be of an option.
I have "Bullguard",which i'm very pleased of.
It's on my computer,now almost a year.
When you start the computer,it starts running.The moment he detects something,he warns you.Than you can start a deep-scan,which you can self adjust how far you want to go.
He costed me just about 50 euro/P year.
And it gaves me more than a year,more than 450 days.
This is just an idea to help,
BTW,"bullguard" do not conflict with the game.

I ewer hade problems with Norton products and the Norton 360 take les resources from the PCs
I don't see the program as a problem, but I had NAV and NIS installed they take more resources from the PCs, but after I begin to use Norton 360 I hawen't had problems at all.
Joust live it there and lat it du the job.
I think that there are some likens with someone like or dislike Microsoft some love Linux odder hate it. but I trust my Norton and the free AVG has a limit with safety, shall you have full safety with AVG you most bay that to. That are a reason to its free.
Well this is only mine meaning about it

I agree with Terry here, Norton was great a few years ago, but the strain on resources now is terrible. I had nothing but problems last time I 'tried' Norton

The only reason why I have Norton 360 is because my Dad recieved it for free with his laptop, and it was valid for 3 PC's..

Otherwise it would of been McAfee..

One thing I have noticed as well is that it takes a bit more time to actually start-up..

I've eventually got access to my emails by using Firefox, but now I can see them on IE too.

I think it was the case it just wanted to 'settle in' and cause a few problems in the proccess

BUT, its already done its job today..

It kicked off a tracking cookie.. Are those dangerous??

Not critical but god to be redder of, the can see were you are and Wat site you look at and the mace adds "suets to you web use and interest" If you se of surten pages you almost every time see adds from were you live, that are a tracking cookie can do, corect me Terry if i has wrong here

Yes, some cookies are actually useful. The "remember me" ones for your passwords might be useful to you. Or the ones that remeber your favourite pages on a site, or your font size and colour etc.

But some cookies will collect information about some of the web sites you visit. When you eventually return to the original web site, they may report back to base.

Cookie clearing software finds it very difficult (impossible, probably) to tell the good cookies from the bad ones, so you can end up with them all being wiped.

I let me IE empty me Internet temp folder every time i close the browser,and i have a program as remember me user name and password so it easy to log in to the sits i must log in to as SS forum so i think I'm pretty safe their

Emptying the temp folder doesn't remove the cookies.

But, no matter how careful you are, if you run a program such as Adaware and/or Spybot S&D to remove them, you'll be amazed at the cookies you've collected!

I hawe lavasoft adaware i meen is the best and run it ewery day to and use the menu in explorer thuse tools and delet all ther exept passwords, paranoide me

no werry cearfull hawe never had virus on my pc wat i know of

My Internet Explorer is really playing up now.. Sometimes it crashes, when i try and close it it becomes unreponsive.
Also When i go to a webpage it won't let me scroll up and down while the rest of the page loads.. (which it used to do) untill the whole page loads..

I tried Firefox this morning and that became unreponsive at times and when i try to close it it crashes..

I'm guessing that these problems are because of Norton 360, because it never used to do this before..
