Measure game frame rates
« on: September 22, 2010, 10:44:53 »

With so much reference to "fps" (frame rate per second) in SSE topics, I hope members will find this small utility called "FRAPS" useful. It continuously displays the frame rate in the corner of your screen when playing the game. You have to first open this utility and then your game. It keeps working in the background. It should offer a basic insight of the graphics card you are using. I ran a check when running "Train Simulator" and it registered 30 FPS, but without any graphics card.

[As I have yet to install SSE, I cannot offer any comments on its performance]

You can find it as free download at:-   www.fraps.com

Those who have used it, please do offer your comments.

Hi Vin_sun,

thanks for this information, but you said yourself there was much reference to FPS in sse topic, and I'm pretty sure every member who made such references already use FRAPS :)

Hi Denis,

Pleased to hear you found this informative. Agree with you....must be "ancient" stuff for the guys who have been using it for sometime....... just hoping it opened a new door to those who haven't !!!!

I already know my average fps by now, I mainly use FRAPS (free version) to take ingame "helicopter" shots.. :)

Same here, the quality of the screenshots is also much better with FRAPS then the in-game capture function due to the JPG compression  :)

In the free version you can only save pics in BMP format, so I have to resize them to JPG later on.. :)
