Cheers for all your comments guys (especially stu and adam  ) i have now installed steam but it won't accept my product code for ship sim, anyone know what is wrong and what i should do?

Is the game running OK its just you don't know where to input the code? If so register your code in your profile on here and thats it.

thanks for your quick reply, the game is not running at all, upon registering with steam, it asks for the product code so i enter the code on the back of the manual and it says invalid code, my friend has the same problem, the game itself is not installing

Sorry it didn't help, try uninstalling everything then reinstall directx, physx latest vid drivers etc and start again, that worked for me after initial problems. Best of luck.

I had no activation key issues, initially it wouldn't get past the loading screen, working ok now.

you can only get ship sim whit out steam from ship sim .com 

The digital version from Gamersgate does not require/use Steam.
